    Alfonso Cuarón's forthcoming Gravity,

this does sound a little like Red Planet (2000) in the first act when Mars-1 ship encountered a solar flare which required the crew to leave behind the mission commander played by Carrie-Anne Moss to put out a fire and possibly the sole survivor of the mission.

    This sounds very cool.

FYI there is another film tentatively titled 'Gravity' in development about "a father who has to search for his lost child as the world stops spinning »with Louis Leterrier as a director sort-of attached. There is also another thread for that: Louis Leterrier's feature currently called 'Gravity'

One of those links says Angelina isn't in it anymore. Someone in the comments suggested Charlize Theron instead - good idea. Or how about taking a chance on a no-name? They've got RDjr to get butts in seats.

Sounds interesting. I like Cuaron's style, and I like sci-fi, so this should be good.

Probably not. She's got no chemistry with Robert Downey Jr. It's like pairing a poodle and a dolphin.

I'm actually really looking forward to this movie...and I think Charlize Theron would have been an excellent choice for the female lead. Scarlett Johannson? Interesting but seems wrong.

Do you think anyone will bother to let those idiots know that the earth's rotation does not cause gravitational attraction before they film it? There's lazy movie science and then there's "give me a fucking break".

Have you ever heard of the notion of altering actual science fact to tell a science fiction story for creative effect? This happens all the time...don't see it as a big deal and you've not even seen it used in the film yet before you judge it.

^No, this is the equivalent of someone running a regular gasoline engine on water, it's inexcusably ignorant. No free pass; this is bout 10x as egregious as a movie like The Core.

Seriously, if the movie is about the earth's rotation slowing down, causing gravity to "go away", those people are too stupid to write science fiction.

I really enjoyed 2012, so I want you to see where I'm coming from when I say that rotation thing is bullshit.

Cuaron's Gravity on the other hand has me very excited. Hope it gets made.

I enjoy gravity. I use gravity on a daily basis. Lots of films feature gravity; but how many films are really about gravity? I look forward to Gravity.

That is, the one that isn't shit-itself retarded.

Having had a chance to read the script for "Gravity" earlier this year and was originally hesitate about it I was blown away and read it twice. Don't have the script any more but after a slow start...there really is a near twenty minute opening shot that will either awe or bore audiences right off the bat...picks up and is pretty intense throughout the film. Since I finished reading it I've been really looking forward to the film.

I don't go into movies looking for good science, so this should be fun. There is fiction in the term after all.

Just by virtue of the director, this was already on my "must-see" list. I don't particularly care for Jolie, so news that Portman may instead be taking over that role has me thrilled.

The script was great...I've been excited for this since the moment it was announced a few months ago and as I stated I hope Portman accepts, she'd be brilliant in the lead female role and it'd be interesting to see her opposite Robert Downey Jr. whom I don't believe she's ever worked with before.

Apparently Portman hasn't actually been offered this role; according to her publicist, it's just a rumor.

Wow...Curaron is having a tough time filling that female lead as I thought he would...hopefully he gets someone other than Jolie.
