The Dax Project, or, Cast The Previous Hosts Of Dax

Rush Limborg

All right, folks. We have had inklings and clues as to the various personalities of the hosts of Dax. There has even been a definitive book on the subject.

Now, Jadzia, Joran (as of "Field of Fire"), and Ezri (:luvlove:) are already cast, obviously. But what of Lela, Tobin, Emony, Audrid, Torias, and Curzon?

Knowing what we know about them...who would you imagine playing them, should they ever appear (unlikely) on screen?

Personally...I'd give Ian Holm (aka Bilbo Baggins) the role of Tobin--especially considering how quirky and, frankly, lovable the Second Host was like when occupying O'Brien's body....

Speculate away!

Curzon was already cast in the pilot I believe.
It doesn't count, since he appeared only for a couple of seconds in a non-speaking role, and as a very old guy - you could cast young Curzon, Curzon at any age - and besides, they recast Joran on the show, and the two actors didn't even look that much alike, so it's not like we should have any issue with recasting!

Remember, it's not just appearances (though Odo's morph does give some good hints as to Curzon's appearance). In that same ep, there are expressions of each host's personality.

Some people in the Trek Lit section (in the gigantic 'Cast the characters of Trek Lit' thread) have suggested Alan Tudyk. I can't really comment (though, from the pictures, physically he would fit the picture above) since I've barely ever seen him in anything (I have seen the first 2 episodes of Firefly, but that's it).

Ok, I sincerely hope Curzon won't steal the thread....

But anyhow...I wonder if YouTube would give some nice clues to that effect....

But in all seriousness...who would you cast for the hosts--not just Curzon (though he is indeed welcome)?

Yes...and I recall Quark and Kira, while "occupied", behaved in ways that implied that Lela and Audrid were older women.

Lela seemed to have a rather eccentric, "folksy" demeanor, while Audrid seemed more of a warm, slower-paced "grandmother".

Still, remember that Lives of Dax and Unity talks about Audrid (in her younger years, apparently) working with Starfleet for a time (Captain Pike, specifically).

Not an officer - she was a Trill scientist who was seconded to work with Starfleet, but she was not a member of the organisation.

Well, as I said before, Joran was already cast in "Field of Fire"--quite nicely, I might add.

BTW...any thoughts on Ian Holm as Tobin? Colm Meany (as "possesed" O'Brien) played him as having a bit of a nervous, "bumbling" personality--a "cute" eccentric, if you will.

After seeing Ian's roles--in Lord of the Rings and The Fifth Element in particular--I could very easily see him as Tobin.

You're right, of course, concerning Joran. My mistake. I'd still not mind seeing it anyway though.

Ian Holm... yes, I could see that. He's a great actor and he'd be a good fit. I'd like to see him do a magic trick.

.
Joran was already cast in "Equilibrium". And then he was recast in "Field of Fire", with an actor who didn't even look like the previous one. So I don't see why you wouldn't recast him again if you wanted to - the show has done it already, and not just with him - they also recast Ishka and Creetak, and with Ziyal they did it two times.
