Enterprise DVD price inflation?

In my slow quest to get all the Trek seasons on DVD (sitting at 18 I think right now) its kinda funny how the prices skew. Since I am buying used from eBay and Amazon, prices usually range around 25 to 35 bucks per season. Well, I got lucky and picked up Season 1 of Enterprise for 20, but the rest of em seem to be over 50 bucks after shipping! I just bit the bullet and bought Season 3 (my fave season of any Trek show, period) for 49.77 shipped. I noticed seasons 2 and 4 are right at or even more expensive!

So, I'm curious how the more successful Trek shows (TOS, Voyager, TNG, DS9) sets can be had used in that sweet 25/35 dollar range, yet the show that got canned (although its my fave of all the Trek shows) is now the most expensive out of all of em!

As an example, I also bought Season 3 of TOS today (finally got all 3 seasons!) in the hold style split vertically box for 30 bucks shipped.

The obvious assumption, I would think, would be that Enterprise is the newest of the series on DVD, and has been on the shelves for the least amount of time, so naturally it's not going to be cheap, yet.

Have you tried Walmart? They seem to be able to hock just about anything for under $20.00 these days...

Yea, I tried Wal-Mart. They have a VERY limited selection in my area though. Here are the only Trek sets they carry:

Enterprise: Season 1 (20 bucks)
TOS: Seasons 1, 2, and 3 (50 bucks each)
TNG: Season 4 (40 bucks)
VOY: Seasons 1 and 2 (20 for 1, 40 for 2)

No plans to carry any other Trek seasons according to the people I've talked to. Pretty well the same for every Wal-Mart in my area (been to 6 surrounding my area within 40 miles)

No better luck at places like Target, Barnes and Noble, FYE, or others. My only spots are pretty well eBay and Amazon.

Wal-Mart helped a lot earlier in the year when they carried more. I picked up TAS, TNG Season 4, VOY Seasons 1 and 2 from there. Strange they don't carry TAS anymore, I paid 15 dollars for it and it seems to go for around 30 online.

Amazon's stocks are varying greatly (and prices are constantly updatet accordingly), especially since I'd imagine that ENT DVDs are still selling decently.

I got mine from Amazon.co.uk for about £13 (~$20) last year. At the moment, they're back at £15.93.

I wish I could get them at a decent price. They're still $60 on Amazon.ca. The Wal-Mart stores here don't have them and the record stores all want around $80. :(

Hmm, I got a couple of seasons of Voyager really cheap that at the time I didn't even know were Canadian. Like 20 bucks apiece.

Prices are all over the place. The used stores around here carry TOS USED for Wal Mart's price for a new set. Barnes and Noble and Best Buy still have new for Enterprise, etc well over $50-60.

Paramount has always gouged on prices, and will continue to do so as near as I can tell.

When the TOS seasons were released, I paid $130 CDN per season. While $50-60 per season for ENT is comparatively cheap, I just can't justify that right now.

Wow, that's steep. I'm glad I live close enough to the UK for shipping costs to be low. Amazon.co.uk has saved me a lot of money for DVDs and video games over the past few years, regardless of the fluctuating exchange rates. :techman:

Paramount always overcharges for their box sets, or at least the Trek ones. No season set in this market should be more that ~$50 when it first comes out. Hell, nuG didn't sell for what the CURRENT price for TOS-R sets is.

The BBC does the same. Prices I've seen now for the nuWho sets are down to about $70-80 but they were well over $100 initially and those are only 13 episodes. If I don't want to pay that for 25 or so, why would I pay that for 13?

after seeing ENT on HDNET, got to have that High Def quality now, with no interruptions. No commercials was great. So, gotta go by DVD's now. or blue ray?

There is a reasonaly priced Ent Season 2 and Season 3 DVD set being sold on ebay individually fyi.
