Have you ever vacationed alone?

No. I have only traveled alone for conferences and I have to say I don't enjoy it as much as traveling with some company. However, you say that you want to get away from everyone and spend some quality time and since it will be for a short period of time I think you will be just fine. Take a book or something with you since you can't walk around all the time of you are alone.
Now that I think of it, spending a couple of days alone sounds good!

I am not sure if it counts as a vacation but I did go away on a long weekend study course with Adult Education. We trapped and released Tasmanian mammals and also tried to see them using spotlights at night. I really enjoyed myself and we manage to either captured (bettong, potaroo, bandicoot, quoll) or spotlight (possums, Tasmanian devil, bat, water rat) most of the small to medium sized mammals.

That's the thing. I want to go out of town and DO something. I don't just want to rent a hotel and stay there the whole time. If I go out of town, I want to have some definite plans and some activities to occupy my time.
If sci fi conventions count...
I did. I went with a big group from my town and I knew some of them, but I spent most of my days alone and meeting new people from other countries, reading, and just thinking about my life. I also haven't watched tv or anything for that whole week. It was good because I wasn't completely alone, I could always find someone I knew, but still I prefered my time alone. It made me appreciate myself more, because I realized I can do things on my own, I don't need to be part of the group to believe in myself and I don't have to be afraid that new people won't like me if I am just being myself. I would definitely advise you to go - it will make you more confident and help you get to know yourself better.
I did travel without family and friends to America (and a bit around it...well three states) and England/ Scottland (several times), however I met other people there, so while travelling without people, I wasn´t alone at my destinantions (there were either online people or host families or people I didn´t knew before, but that did the same thing that I did there). I personally like it, cause if you travel with family and friends they have this certain picture of you in the head, certain behaviour they expect and I never know how to break free of this expectations they have. So when travelling alone and meeting people who don´t have that expectations I feel a lot more free to just BE.
Well and the last five days in England at my travel two weeks ago I was alone, but I was invited every evening for dinner with my former host-family and during the day had an internship. So its also different than what you want to do. But if you have the feeling you need to be alone for a bit and just well... relax or do something for yourself...why not? Sounds good.

No, but i would LOVE to.
I've done a couple of vacations where I was staying with friends but there was more than one day where they had to work so I spent a large amount of time by myself.
Of course, I've also been on vacation and at times wished I -was- alone. Note to vacation hosts - if you don't want to do something your guest does, just -say- so and offer them the opportunity to do it on their own instead of going along and being a buzzkill the whole time.

Sort of. My wife attended a conference for work in England. I tagged along since her plane ticket and lodging/food were paid for. I'd go on day trips during the day while she was in the sessions, and we'd do stuff later in the day together.
I liked it, there was a freedom to it, but enjoyed the time we spent together better.

Yes. Three years ago I went all the way down to Turkey and met a very nice couple. The man broke the ice by saying "do you see where Luxembourg is?" and then I laughed very loudly, in a Mutenroshi kind of way ( 
). Turned out the woman's father is a close friend of my dad's (whom I hadn't reconciled with yet).

Yes. It was great. Just letting loose and flying by the seat of your pants, seeing what the world will present to you next. Very thrilling. I highly recommend it. And you don't have to take a damn census everytime you want to do some activity or other - you simply please yourself.
Then again, I've been known to hang out at bars, restaurants, and clubs on my own, too... so taking a solo holiday didn't feel like anything new. When you are single, it's either that, or be left to the mercy of the whims of your friend's social diaries, rather than going where you want to go, when you want to go. Very liberating. And you make more friends that way, rather than playing it safe and sticking with those you've always known.

This is pretty much how I feel. I think that part of the fun in traveling is sharing the experience with others. I've been bitten by the travel bug lately and so I want to go to different places, but I have had a difficult time finding people who have the time/money/interest to go with me! And I really don't want to go alone! I guess I'm just not extraverted enough to go to a strange new city alone and try to meet people there.

I took four weeks off work in the summer of 1997 and drove alone from upstate New York to Lake Tahoe (with a side trip to Flaming Gorge in Utah) for my goddaughter's wedding. I stayed a week with my best friend (her mom) in San Jose, Calif., and then headed home via Las Vegas and I-40 (I drove I-80 going out).
I spent a couple of nights in Flagstaff, visited the Lowell Observatory, went to the Grand Canyon, stopped at Sunrise Volcano, Meteor Crater, the Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest, zipped through New Mexico, OK, Texas, Arkansas and on to Memphis (Graceland!), stopped to visit my brother in D.C. for a few days (spent 6 hours in the Air and Space Museum while he was at work; I got a $60 parking ticket for parking in a 30-minute zone).
I found the experience to be very interesting. I didn't know a single person in most of the states I drove through and it was weird to realize that if I got into trouble, I'd have no one but strangers to turn to for help. Fortunately I had no problems and I would happily do it again.
