Gifting Economy

In many of the sections here, Star Trek economics gets discussed/debated. With some calling it a gifting economy.

Here is the Burning Man festival take on gifting.
Some how the terms like kindness generosity are no longer good enough?

I loved the two Burning Man festivals I've been to. The second time through I brought lots of extra sunscreen, rubbin' goo on random strangers is a great way to meet people.

I do seem to have a problem with some folks who appear to have a mentality of "you will all endlessly gift me." people will gift me, society will gift me, the government will gift me. While I can (and do) gift freely, there should, in my mind, never be an expectation of being gifted. Kind of spoils the beauty of the concept.

Or get an asskicking, which is what I personally would give any random stranger who started smearing me (with anything). :wtf:

Well then, don't ever go to Burning Man. Once you take a punch, someone will film you getting beaten up by dozens of naked men.:guffaw:

Sorry to hear there are people with an undeserved sense of entitlement at a place like that.

Hey, now, don't jump to conclusions. Most likely I would never be there in the first place. Especially if there's all this smearing going on. Sounds disgusting, really.

As for the half naked hippy chicks: With my luck, even if I did go to this thing, they wouldn't be there either. :(

^ A good general rule is: At any public gathering where lots of people are naked or nearly so, most of them will be fat, out of shape and ugly.

^ Still, if I had to be naked to go there, that would be even more reason not to go (almost as important a reason as the obvious fact that I do not find the worship of graven images appealing at all. I mean, if the crowd wants to bow down before this thing, I guess I can't stop them, just leave me out of it).

Trust me: Me being naked at any public event would be extremely counter-productive. I could probably make those people puke. :barf:

^ I'd prefer not to be naked at all. Which is one of the many reasons this event would not seem to be my thing. Sorry about that.

That, and the actual burning of the man itself. As I said, it sounds too much like...you know:
