"Haven" (new SyFy series starring Emily Rose) - Discussion & Spoilers

Re: "Haven" (new SyFy series starring Emily Rose) - Discussion & Spoil

It made NO SENSE at the end. And did nothing to explain any of it.
Yeah, but it still had some attention-grabbing stuff kicking around in there. I had the episode on in the background while I was doing something else, but the last 10 minutes or so really had me. I like that whatshisface now has a daughter somewhere. It's a fairly significant and permanent change even if the kid was sent away.

Re: "Haven" (new SyFy series starring Emily Rose) - Discussion & Spoil

This show is Failing, fading fast.

It has all the ingredients for a great show, but its just not coming together. Stories need to be tighter, acting less stiffer, and a little less FOTW and even they do more concentration on the myth arc, details on issues between the two guys, etc...

And I'm hating this attitude that 'Hey it's Haven this is a weird town' and miss FBI just goes along with it too as if it is no big deal that babies can make super fast aging possible, etc. It's like there all on mellow drugs lol. Maybe someone's power is to allow the town to be indifferent and calm in the face of the extra-ordinary???

Anyway, I fear cancellation. I'll stick with it for now but can't bear too much more...

Dana Scully and Olivia Dunham need to take Agent Audrey aside and explain to her how its done.

Actually, they established in the first episode that Audrey has been a magnet for weirdness in the past, so it's in character for her to be so accepting.

I would think the FBI would come down hard on Audrey after she let a lady who controls the weather leave town after killing someone, after she let someone who can bring catatonic people back into reality with his music (and weapons-wise, can make sane people go crazy with it) go on a boat, and after she let someone who can turn food he's eating bad (which means he can be a weapon too) walk away. :)

Unless they're secretly capturing all of them after Audrey lets them go.

or they are keeping a database of all these individuals... The Government's good at keeping databases....
they already have most of them locked up/located in one general area...

None whatsoever. It was brought up in a conversation for about 20 seconds but didn't go anywhere and was quickly forgotten.
Too bad. Isn't this just a 12- or 13-episode run? We're nearly half way through and there's no significant movement on the show's self-professed raison d'etre. If the writing were better or the characters more engaging it might be worth the wait but as it is..

You have to know the big movement will be in the final episode, which will lead to a cliffhanger. Said cliffhanger will be resolved in the first episode with minimal movement on the back story of the Troubles of the Colorado Kid.

Think of the series The Dead Zone. They teased the novel's back story for years and never really got there.
Yeah I'm out. Didn't watch last night.

More and more it's becoming apparent that these days if King isn't adapted by Darabont it's not worth watching.

I heard that the whole Stillson thing never really went anywhere. That's one of the reasons I never watched that show. If you are going to tease the a novel's plot then at least do it in the final season before the show gets canceled...

It seems like the townspeople manifest outward symptoms when they are upset or angry or frustrated, etc. this is probably what the Troubles was about. This has happened in most of the episodes. Seems to be a theme. This woman was angry and hurt when her ex talked to her about his new marriage complete with new baby. Her anger towards men manifested as a siren, Helena, who stole a man's life force and grew a baby which then destroyed the father. Not much different than the ignored girl becoming invisible in Buffy. Another woman's emotions caused storms to manifest. This is just the set-up. If they just said that Haven's citizens' emotions were out of control and caused things to happen without giving examples, the viewers would be fussing about it. It doesn't seem to be a bad summer show.

Right, agreed and good point. But I don't know, I just thought it would be more real to see a bit of shock or surprise in seeing the goings on before she moved to the acceptance and provide solutions.

There is nothing that says she can't be accepting and be a magnet and at the same time react a little more 'normally'. Maybe that's part of her pretense, her FBI training kicking in. Maybe this is part of her past story and related to the mytharc that will unravel. But they better get to it or as the ratings suggest (thanks Temis, ouch!) it will be lights out.

Show has potential, and I'll stick with it for now, and as Trull says, sure beats reruns that's for damn sure!

Audrey and Nathan find that even the animals in Haven are full of dangerous surprises.

Re: "Haven" (new SyFy series starring Emily Rose) - Discussion & Spoil

^Wow it's uncanny how much she resmbles both:
1) Maggie Grace - (Shannon, LOST)
2) Elisha Cuthbert - (Kim Bauer, 24)

Re: "Haven" (new SyFy series starring Emily Rose) - Discussion & Spoil

Well this had a somewhat stupid premise turn original and compelling only to turn stupid again. And the bear effects were awful.

Also, is Haven a big enough town to have such a high body count week after week not affect the residents there?

Re: "Haven" (new SyFy series starring Emily Rose) - Discussion & Spoil

Anything on the mythology?

Re: "Haven" (new SyFy series starring Emily Rose) - Discussion & Spoil

None whatsoever, although everyone is already calling the mystery woman in the photo Audrey's mother even though there's been absolutely no groundwork to get to that point.

Re: "Haven" (new SyFy series starring Emily Rose) - Discussion & Spoil

I kinda liked this one but only b/c I liked the reveal about the taxidermist at the end(b/c the idea of human golems running around is super creepy but cool, unlike last week's baby that ages his father thing which was just lame) and that he didnt get killed off (I thought he'd commit suicide at the end somehow.) Now it'd be cool if he becomes a recurring character, but I doubt he will.

I haven't had any exposure to the source material, but if it turns out that the woman in the picture is a time-traveling Audrey I will pat myself on the back for having bowed out early. ;)

I have the sad feeling that twist would actually be too clever for this show. ;)
