“Rush is still at it in the second season,” Carlyle said, “but even more so this time. When we join the second season, we discover instantly — in the first two or three scenes in fact — that Rush has discovered the bridge of the ship. Not only has he discovered the bridge, but he knows how to fly the thing. He’s steering it around. [The others] don’t know that. He hasn’t told anyone this.

Carlyle revealed that the rest of the crew is kept in the dark for some time, and it won’t be until episode seven — “The Greater Good” — that Rush’s secrecy is revealed. “Rush and Young go investigate an abandoned alien craft which is just outside the Destiny,” Carlyle explains. “When they’re over there, it hits the fan back on [Destiny]. They find the bridge. They find Rush is responsible for all this stuff. “That puts Rush in a difficult position, as you can imagine, because the last time he was left with Young anywhere, he left [Rush] on the planet.”
Moving forward, the relationship between Dr. Rush and Colonel Young will move in a new direction. After Young learns the truth there is “an 11-page scene between myself and Colonel Young,” Carlyle said. “It’s tremendous, and it’s something you don’t normally get in television — followed by a 6-page scene after that, where Rush explains everything to [Young] and confesses.
“But, not only that. There is, in fact, a mission. There has always been a mission. It has never been about going home. It’s a game-changer, as they like to say around here. Everything changes in that moment.
“So Young, instead of wanting to kill [Rush], says, ‘What is it?’ [Rush] tells him, and it’s so mind-boggling he actually manages to get Young on [his] side. The dynamic changes between Rush and Young in that moment. They decide to come together and move forward. Don’t start looking behind. Stop saying we don’t belong on this ship. Embrace it, and move forward.”

Whatever the mission is, I fully expect it to be something ridiculous and impossible to swallow, because that's how far my expectations of this show have fallen. But I'll watch just because seeing Rush go crazy and Young constantly screw up is entertaining.

Its Stargate, of course it will be. There really isn't much the Ancients haven't already done, and with the constant character assassination of them over the last several years I don't think theres anything particularly good going to come of this.

Woah, where have all the SGU fans gone? I think words like 'ridiculous' and 'impossible' have little meaning in science-fiction. There needs to be some suspension of disbelief with shows like this. I don't mean that we should accept everything we see just because it's sci-fi, but I can't really think of any moments so far in SGU that strain credibility.

In what way have the Ancients fallen victim to character assassination? Their backstory has been revealed slowly over SG1 and SGA, that's all. Personally, I can't think of anything I didn't like about what we've learnt so far.

You know, that was actually sounding kind of promising up until the "But is Rush telling the truth?" part.

I've never seen Rush as the shady weasel that all the other characters do and that the writers want us to see him as. I've always believed he is genuinely working towards the common goal of finding a way home. Maybe the other characters don't trust him, because he is closed off, distant and plain rude, but that doesn't by extension mean he has to have a hidden agenda. Just make him an arrogant bastard who doesn't share what he knows because he genuinely feels his comrades aren't smart enough to understand.

That would make for an interesting development. Not this hidden agenda crap.

Which is why I am looking forward to this. It has been too long since we've had a crazy and completely over the top thing happen or be revealed. I love when stuff like that happens in Stargate. Blowing up a star, traveling back to 1969, using a giant drill to save a planet, landing a giant city-ship outside of the Golden Gate Bridge.......

I just hope that Jack plays a larger role in season 2, his comic relief is sorely needed to be more of a presence in the series. The lack of comic relief is one of the reasons that I never really enjoyed nuBSG up until 4.5.

Yeah, I don't mind Jack's presence. They really need to find something better for Daniel to do, though, if they're going to bring him back. It's inconceivable to me that they haven't used the swappy stones to bring him aboard Destiny yet. I realize that the primary concern is keeping the people on the ship alive and finding them a way home, but it's also an incredible research opportunity and it makes no sense that it isn't being exploited.

In Faith with the Riker stand in Scott on the Eden planet LT James was leading the ship search mission and found the repair robot. Presumably that had been going on at other times also they just didn't find anything worthy of showing us

I think that may just be Carlyle covering a bit for having given away most of what happens in the first half, not that Syfy's trailers don't do that already.

Or maybe Rush found the bridge a while ago and has just been screwing with everybody all along...I wouldn't put it past him. Personally, I think he's awesome.
Young can be awesome, but not as a leader. As a character, he's actually pretty cool and can handle himself in a conflict but as a leader he's a moron. I won't be surprised if the two of them decide they're more awesome together, it already sort of happened when Rush switched with Telford to spy on him then Young went to Earth to spy on Rush and found out he really was being a good guy...they work well together when they're not trying to kill each other.

I think they want to retcon the Ancients into becoming mysterious again. Destiny seems to be a key to ascension, or even something better (whatever that may be).

^^ Sigh, but the previous shows put ascension at a much later stage of the Ancient's evolution, there shouldn't be any 'key' or revelation to it inside Destiny's database, or actual mission. If they want to make them mysterious and cool again, stop making them such complete idiots who can't do anything and are constantly shown up by upstart Earth humans who've only been space faring for a mere 15 years.

I prefer them working together. And Rush had really changed in the last few episodes of the season--at peace with himself.

As on Voyager, continuous infighting is ridiculous when there's an external enemy or plain survival is at stake. It gets monotonous. Provided the "working together" is built up to, it shows growth in the characters. When not built up to, it shows lazy writers and idiot networks/producers.
