Vampires Suck trailer -- how are Friedberg and Seltzer still working??

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are the "creative" duo writing/directing force behind some of your favorite movies of all time such as Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans and Disaster Movie. And now they're back with Vampires Suck.

Talk Soup referred to them as "reference movies" rather than spoofs or parodies because they don't actually spoof or parody anything -- they just rehash scenes from other movies, go for the cheap kick-to-the-crotch joke, have one of their actors pretending to be a celebrity but need another actor to point out what celebrity is being portrayed, and that is supposed to be the punchline.

Sometimes they stretch their talents and really go for broke to get a laugh like with a "Don't vote for Pedro" t-shirt.

Make reference to something in current pop culture, kick someone in the crotch, make reference to something in current pop culture, insert a vomit joke, make reference to something in current pop culture, have someone fall down, end movie.

In many ways, they're like Homer Simpson's take on comedy. Homer makes fun of other characters sort of like this: "Look at me! I'm Lisa! Look at Lisa carrying her books around! Look at how Lisa eats spaghetti!" These movies follow the same format.

Before you watch the trailer, I bet you can probably predict every lame joke and what they're going to make reference to beforehand.

I think half the jokes have, as always, already been made.
Just to completely derail this thread, wasnt their another movie due out soon with a similar pun in the title, had either Alice Cooper or Ozzy Ozbourn in a cameo. Actually looked half intelligent. Think it was about a band selling out, any help?

I heard this movie will also parody the new Alice in Wonderland movie. It's pretty sad that Vampires Suck won't even be as entertaining as the Alice music video.

There's a Canadian vampire movie called Suck that's been making the film festival circuit starring Malcolm McDowell, Henry Rollins, Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop.

I'll be honest, the Black Eyed Peas joke got a giggle out of me, but that was it. The rest was painfully obvious.

The current vampire craze, and "Twilight" in particular is ripe for parody... I just wish someone with some talent had taken a crack at it.

There are some parody books released, but they all seem to go for the obvious jokes sadly.

Thanks, I'm fairly certain that's the one I was thinking of.

These movies are terrible. They suck humor out of me for up to 3 or 4 days (I watch pieces on HBO or whatever to see how bad it is)

Don't forget the thing they have to do after each crotch hit: The other actors have to suck air between their teeth and grimace and then go "ooooohhh!" (as in oooh that must've hurt). I think they did that 4 times in Meet The Spartans alone.

UGH! My 13 year old daughter ( a big fan of Eclipse) is REALLY wanting to see this movie and has been loving the trailer.. I cannot express how deeply and sincerely I DON'T want to see this movie.. that said, the bit in the trailer when the "Team Jacob" fan gets a shovel to the face did produce a giggle or two..

Re: Vampires Suck trailer -- how are Friedberg and Seltzer still worki

I saw the trailer and thought this looked good, signaling that we are finally at the end of the new fake glitter vampire hysteria. However, all the best bits are probably in the trailer- and if this duo who has done those dim movies from before doesn't have anything new-this will indeed suck. What happened to all the good parodies like the first few Scary Movie films?

Re: Vampires Suck trailer -- how are Friedberg and Seltzer still worki

A friend of mine from my office asked me if I wanted to go see this with her...

what the hell she's hot at least.

Kids these days... :vulcan:

How are they still working? Cheap movies with no-name actors that get paid nothing that would turn a profit even if next to no one paid to see them.

These are movies teenagers pay to attend on the weekend when there is nothing better to see. They are usually released during dry spells in the movie season. They're mindless crap but the kids have a $20 bill burning in their pocket and it's a dark, cool place to spend 90 minutes text messaging.

I thought the Twilight films looked dogshit.... I'd watch them a dozen times over than watch this "thing"

Re: Vampires Suck trailer -- how are Friedberg and Seltzer still worki

People actually see these alleged comedies? Spoof films haven't been funny since The Naked Gun movies.

Re: Vampires Suck trailer -- how are Friedberg and Seltzer still worki

To be honest, I didn't mind the first one or two Scary Movies. They were still pretty fresh at the time and were actual spoofs, but every one of the (three or so) other recent parody films I've tried to watch (like Disaster Movie) were just unfunny, terrible movies.

Re: Vampires Suck trailer -- how are Friedberg and Seltzer still worki

They look really cheaply made as well.

Taking on Twilight in-of-itself is rife with material and, from the looks of it, well done and attacks it well in the moive. But then they've got to throw the Lady Ga Ga, Alice and Wonderland stuff in there and just make you go... Huh?!

And the other Movie Movie movies were shit to the nth degree. But, I dunno.... the material they have to work with here and some of what I saw in the trailer has me tempted but...

No.

No.

NO.

The other movies were shit, so this one will be too.
