Torchwood series 4 details

I don't want to watch because Ianto isn't in it... sorry, that was the 16 year old fangirl in me talking there. I'm looking forward to it. It seems intriguing with the new American writers on board.
Ianto was the man and shall be missed.

I like all the writers announced, except John Fay because I can't think who he is, but he worked on Children of Earth so that should be good.

John Fay is a British television writer.
His work includes episodes of Clocking Off, Blue Murder and Robin Hood. Fay spent several years on the writing staff of Coronation Street, and in 2005 received the British Academy Television Award for Best Continuing Drama, sharing the BAFTA with Coronation Street producer Tony Wood and director Ian Bevitt. In 2007, Fay created the three-part ITV drama series Mobile.
I have only ever seen Coronation Street out of all of that lot.

So freaking excited to have Doris Egan on the writing team!!! She's one of my favorite writers from House MD!

I'll give RTD points if he includes some dialogue whereby someone says or implies Wales/Cardiff is in England and Gwen gets really irritated by it. It would be very true to life :)
When I think of "England" I think of that entire set of islands including Ireland and Scotland... sorry...

Almost a thousand years ago England had an army and killed enough people till Ireland, Scotland and Wales bent over and agreed to pay taxes and kill frogs for the English crown.

Ever see how Canadians respond to being called American?

You really shouldn't. England is only one of four political subdivisions of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

I have to admit I sometimes get fuzzy on which is Great Britain and which is the United Kingdom and sometimes use "Brit" for the whole lot.

I'm sorry I still view the U.K and surrounding areas as part of the

Empire!!:techman:

Well that distinction doesn't really matter between England, Wales and Scotland they're all part of Great Britain. The distinction you need to be making is between English and Scottish and Welsh.

^^ I'm good with England, Scotland, and Wales (esp. thanks to Torchwood actually...) but the Irish thing throws me off (when it comes to grouping and unions).

Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland but not part of Great Britain.

Indeed. We're very creative in how we can use hockey sticks as instruments of torture.

Over here we never say "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" which would of course make it quite obvious. It's just "United Kingdom". Maybe I'm just speaking for myself but I don't think it's as obvious that Ireland isn't part of the UK, I tend to think of that whole cluster of islands as one thing. I can make sense of it intellectually but it takes me a beat occasionally, it feels more natural to lump it all together.

We never say it that way either to be honest. It's just the UK or Britain but there's a distinction and people do get irate if you get it wrong.
