The Wrath of Khan on the big screen

nickyboy

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I attended a showing of The Wrath of Khan at the Prince Charles Cinema in London yesterday, the print was in rough shape in a few parts. However it was great to see it on the big screen as I was 2 years old when this was originally released!

The Biggest Pops went out for "Khaaaaaaan" and "I can't"

Khan's chest got lots of laughs, I had never considered this before, but was his chest fake?????

Always a special experience to see this movie on the big screen. From your description of the print, I presume it was the superior theatrical cut?

Everyone involved with the film claims that it really is Montalban's chest.

I think Montalban said a few times in interviews that it was his real chest in TWOK. I'm sure there's something on the SE DVD extras.

Such as shame the great man's no longer with us.

Yes, I don't recall if it was in the commentary or the extras, but Nicholas Meyer did say the chest is authentic. I think it looks a bit fake because it's been shaved and powdered to the point of looking waxy.

Susan Sackett and Judson Scott both told me they saw Khan's chest in person on set and that it was definitely real. Ricardo Montalban did many push-ups before each scene to ensure it was really pumped. He wouldn't have needed to do that with a prosthetic chest.

Ricardo Montalban really was in excellent physical condition, he was ripped like an action hero, even after his spinal injury, while confined to a wheelchair he remained in top physical condition, the guy looked solid, just watch the Spy Kids films to see how great he looked

Saw several of his older films on TCM recently...

His chest was real...even back in the 50s, he was ripped...

Yes it was the theatrical cut, which is the best cut. It was amazing to see it on the big screen

The cinema is showing all 11 movies at the end of the month, I am tempted to catch 3+4 then

Lucky :) I was just discussing this with a friend last night saying I wish I could see this film on the big screen. But I had to settle for Netflix!

Try visiting the manager of a local independent cinema. They will often be open to the idea of a one-off theme night, especially if you uncover a SF film fanatic or offer to help with promotion.

Nope. That chest was his.
Check back to old Fantasy Island episodes where he had his shirt off and you'll see those were real.

The guy was always into physical fitness, especially swimming.

And we women were always thankful of that. Wow!

Yup. Our local one played II as part of a triple-bill one weekend a few months back, along with III and IV. It was great. :D
