MLB Talk - 2010 Season

The Tigers continue to struggle after the break, getting injured left and right. They have four key players on the DL for the foreseeable future in Ordonez, Inge, Guillen, and Zumaya.

They start 5-6 guys a night who are rookies in Jackson, Boesch, Rhymes, Larish, Sizemore, and Worth. The only reliable bats are Cabrera and Damon. In other words, it's serious uh-oh time.

The Philles have turned things around a bit since the break, so at least I have someone I can root for again who is being successful.

Great game tonight with the Giants getting the long ball working for the win, and my man Posey hitting for his 20th game straight...only 2 away from tying Willie McCovey for longest hitting streak as a rookie. I also LOLd at the Marlins manager throwing a hissy fit over Brian Wilson's orange shoes, claiming they're too bright. Dude, their colors *are* black and orange...how is that not acceptable? Nobody complains about those retina-burning orange jerseys they wear on Friday night home games (which I love, especially because they're undefeated when they wear them). I'll admit that Wilson does look like a bit of a mess with his mohawk, unbuttoned jersey, tight pants and now the orange shoes...but I can't believe the Marlins manager actually bitched to the umps about them. :wtf:

I, too, find Wilson's appearance a little off, but with the save record he's got, I think it gives him the right to pull it off.

And Hell yeah! Orange Fridays for the WIN! :techman:

Seriously! Brian "The Cardiac Kid" Wilson sure blew it with losing that save...but man what a nailbiter that was in the 10th. Way to go Andres for the walk off single. Giants baseball...torture!

Especially when I've got a grandpa, who knows 5% of the game to my 20% knowledge, armchair managing saying things like "OH, not the bunting shit again! They're just giving up an out!", "There goes the ball game, Soandso's in and he's gonna walk 'em all", and pitching a fit about the bad calls thinking they ought to have more use of reviewing plays besides the "did it go over the fence?" debate.

Phillies get Oswalt, meaning we now have the two best pitchers named Roy. I'm worried what this means for money and prospects, but it certainly helps us this year.

Well that was pretty miserable...a shut out by the Marlins (the Marlins!) and Posey's streak ends at 21. Eff.

That sucked. Chalk it up to "Shit happens" and call it a day. I'll gladly take a 4 game split. LA Comes to town tomorrow night and I can't wait till this weekend series. That, and ESPN finally decides now is a good time to come west and do a Giants Game for the entire country. And it's Cain vs. Kershaw, which will be, on paper, a sweet match up.

I'll be watching

Y'know, as much of a Yankee fan as I am, and as much as I'm looking forward to A-Rod hitting home run #600, I think the hysteria's getting way out of hand. Broadcasts on other channels (such as ESPN and MLB Network) are cutting to the Yankee games every time A-Rod's at bat. Even I think that's going too far.

Think you should clarify that as "media hysteria". Aside from MLB network and ESPN, not sure anyone cares about A-Rod and 600. Kinda sad, honestly, but true. If it was someone else, or probably more likely, a few years ago, this would be HUGE. Right now, other than it getting mentioned every time they show him on tv, no one seems to really care. Yankees aren't getting their money's worth out of those milestone bonuses that they thought would draw huge attention...

I wanted A-Rod to hit 600 when they were playing the Royals just so he'd get the HR off the same pitcher (Kyle Davies) he got 500 from.

Well, it seems like fans in Cleavland care, every time he's at bat there is a mass migration to the bleachers

Speaking of which, this Yankees/Indians game thats going on right now is one of the worst, most boring games I've seen in a long time. Terrible pitching and terrible hitting all around.
