Back to the Future Part II

It would have been nice of Doc to advise Marty to give up street racing and maybe see a therapist for his low self-esteem. :)

"Marty, we've all got to make the decisions that effect the course of our lives. You've got to do what you were meant to do. Except for your kids, they're special and need my bestest and most urgent help despite having a time machine and the all the time in the world to solve this issue, we must go NOW!"

I can't wait until the new DVD set comes out in a few months. This thread is just reinforcing my love for this trilogy is among my all time favorite films (including three too).

^ Now you know why I called 2015 a dystopia. ;)

I mean, would you want to live in a society where a flying car could come sailing out of the sky and onto your house, or you, without warning? I thought not.

And I stand by my position. There may have been a few things about the movie's depiction of 2015 that could be considered realistic, but as a whole, it just seemed like too much of a wacky acid trip.

Not. The. Definition. Of "dystopia."

Yeah. I don't think there's any way in which you could consider those scenes to be dystopian.

Mad Max, fuck you! Marty McFly had to deal with flying cars and wacky colors in his dystopian future!

The worst part about 2015 is that they had Michael J Fox play his son AND daughter. What's "worst" about this is that they ONLY did it to show off their fancy new camera that they invented to do it.

A George-Lucas-styled "solution to a question no one asked" if I ever saw one.

They should have had the girl who played Jennifer play the daughter. That'd be ridiculous, but it'd be a BTTF kind of ridiculous that would fit. Not the weirdo "cross-dressing ridiculous" that we ended up with.

Well most of Marty's ancestors looked like Marty so why not his descendants? I suppose Marlene could have looked like Lea Thompson though... It wouldn't have been as funny as the whole drag thing.

^
I agree...Elisabeth Shue should have played the daughter too. I am not up on these kinda things but...Why Claudia Wells not Jennifer in 2 & 3...busy...didn't want the role again???

I agree.

There is so much of the future stuff I liked but your point is one thing I didn't like. I also hated the upside-down George. I know why they did it, but it was still just too weird. I also hated the overacting.

I heard that the young lady who played one of the hoverboard punks was seriously injured during the shoot (maybe her stuntwoman) and... if I am right, you can actually see it in the film. She slams hard into the pillar and then falls almost a storey into the ground.

She turned it down. Her mother was sick and she didn't feel that she could be away long enough to make movies at that time.

Yep. It's true. That part did make it into the film.

I wonder why George seemed to revert to the submisive dofus as an old man? Just out of plain old age? I mean, Biff is understandable it seems natural he'd revert back to a mean, cranky, old man and we even saw glimpses of him still having it within him even as the sub-servant Biff in the Slightly Altered 1985. It seemed that while he was sub-servant and submissive to George he still had that asshole somewhere in him.

Not sure what you mean. He hurt himself on the golf course. That's about the only fact we learn about old George.

What makes that submissive?

Because his wife was nagging him? (I know! I know!) That's submissive? That's not just having been married for 50 years? I don't see how that says anything about George's character.

Yeah I didn't see George return to his previous submissive self...I took his line to just be agreeing to his nagging wife of many years lol. Indeed we don't get much of any information regarding George or Lorraine except for George throwing his back out on the golf course and requiring the use of some kind of anti-grav device.

I dunno, his more wimpy voice, his "yes, dear"s he just seemed closer to the the "old" George than the George we saw at the end of the first movie who was confident and a bit more dominating. But, yeah, I guess old age could've played a role in it.

Well George is gentle by nature, even in the hip 1985. He was confident but not arrogant. Firm but not bullying. I don't see him copping an attitude with his wife. That shit might fly with Biff but Lorraine? Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. She can always divorce him and take his money or at least cut off the sex... ;)

This actually makes some sense. They have to leave right then because in 5 minutes Marty is getting into a bad traffic accident that's going to put him in the hospital for a while, and by the time he gets out he won't be a perfect match for his kid anymore.

Also about your other point, Marty's problem was personality driven and Doc couldn't risk stopping the accident and have it replaced by something worse "I can't tell you, it might make things worse". If Marty avoids the accident the next thing that he gets goaded into could kill him (Doc knows he survives to 2015 if he doesn't interfere). Doc must have felt Marty Jr. mistake was different since he was bullied and not goaded into it.

Dialouge and actions in the movie suggest that both Marty and Marty Jr. have the same problem, they don't like being called chicken/are easily goaded into trouble. I get what you're saying about Doc not wanting to mess with Marty because it'd mean Marty might just get into a woese accident or disaster in the future at the same time it seems odd that he wouldn't at least give Marty a stronger push to pull his head out of his and get over himself.
