The Abramsprise

The other day, I saw this video on YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcpRQO3dLDY

I must admit that I really dig the creator's Abramsverse-style refit Connie. I think that the Enterprise of Star Trek (2009) is the least visually appealing of the Enterprises we've seen throughout TOS, TNG, ENT, and the movies.

I think that for installment nummer zwölf, Ryan Church or someone else should redesign the Big E to look more like she did in The Motion Picture through The Undiscovered Country.

Does one have any thoughts, objections, flames?

I'll pass on that - I like the new version of the ship fine, and have no desire whatever to see them go backward. And, of course, they will not.

I also prefer "JJPrise" to "Abramsprise."

That was actually a pretty cool video. The Enterprise, however influenced by the Abramsprise, was well proportioned and looked pretty good. Not nearly as ugly as the Abramsprise. The "Abramcelsior", on the other hand, not so much. As far as the bridge setting, it looked pretty good too. It was a very well done melding of the TMP refit bridge that looks quite nice updated with the new displays. I'd like to see someone try that with the TOS bridge. As for the STXI Abramsprise, there are no words that can adequately express the extent of my hatred of that poor excuse for a badly designed imitation Enterprise. That's all I'll say.

I thought the STXI Enterprise looked great. Bigger, angrier and with a cool retro-futuristic look. I loved it. The odd proportions and curves make it look like the combined tech of the entire Federation rather than just Earth.

They're not gonna pay their art people to exactly recreate the look of a ship from 1979 in STXII. It would defeat the object of a reboot, it would become a period piece like James Cawley's fan films are for 1969 Trek.

I love Star Trek New Voyages, or Phase II or whatever it's called as well, but it has nothing to do with the design of the ship. Same with Star Trek '09. The ship could have looked like anything and I wouldn't have cared all that much. I was much more interested in how the new cast portrayed their characters.

Re: the Youtube video: Meh. It was really bad computer animation set to the audio of STIII. The ships look bad because the animation looks bad. Don't really see the point of this, actually.

It was not a professional production. Of course it's gonna be crude and somewhat rough around the edges. That is to be expected. For an amateur-ish outing, it wasn't bad at all.

Exactly. That's why this ship looks so great!

Agreed.

I like the JJPrise a lot. the intitial shock was over once i saw the ship in motion in the second trailer. The leaked image was a shock as it was so different and was an imalgamation of, as said, everything from the Federation. The JJPrise looks to me as if it was designed to be seen in motion, sitting still, its not too bad a ship, but once under way, the exagerated curves and features come to life in a glorious design...

Its a moving piece of art, in the way it has to be moving to get the whole aesthetic.

Exactly. It's a terrific looking ship, particularly in motion.

I remember seeing that video before, it is pretty awesome, though wish the JJPrise got to use its phaser cannons in it, but thats just one niggle with it. :p

Not so much a fan of the first video, though I do like the 'Would you like to play a new game, Captain?' with Dig Dug :rommie:
