MLB Talk - 2010 Season

Billy Wagner is just tired. He's already pitched in 54 games. He needs a week off.

Well maybe Glaus needs some time off too - or some steriod shots? He's officially back to his early season suckitude. Watching him bat lately is painful.

Also, did I miss something about Kawakami? He's been in the bullpen a month now, and has pitched ONE inning (July 16). Did he quietly go to the DL or the minors for awhile? I can't believe they would tie up a valuable bullpen spot for a guy who doesn't pitch.

6 and 1 road trip for the SF Giants this week. I would have been happy with 5 and 2, but I am very impressed with the 6-1, and it all came against the NL West. This was much needed, since they haven't done well against the west this season. Now if only they played a team like the Padres (Who refuse to lose) more often, things could really get interesting. Also, I know I've said it before, but I'm starting to get convinced that Buster Posey is the NL Rookie of the Year. He is absolutely unreal right now with the 18 game hitting streak and continuing that streak in the first at bat. I saw his first at-bat today and he has such a style to him that it's almost automatic. It's such fun to see this guy (And Bumgarner last night) just carry this team. I'm not sure how long it's going to last, but right now, I'm enjoying the ride.

^ Uhhh... Griffey has to wait five years. Whoever is next will be next year. :p

Returning to the ballot next year: Bert Blyleven, Roberto Alomar, Jack Morris, Barry Larkin, Lee Smith, Edgar Martinez, Tim Raines, Mark McGwire (well it's obvious he's not getting in), Alan Trammell, Fred McGriff, Don Mattingly (can't see how he'd ever get in), Dave Parker, Dale Murphy (if Dawson is in Murphy should be in too) and Harold Baines.

New to the ballot: Larry Walker, Jeff Bagwell, Rafael Palmeiro (see: Mark McGwire) and then a bunch of lesser but still name players that don't have a shot (like Kevin Brown, Tino Martinez, Al Leiter, Dan Wilson, John Olerud, Benito Santiago, Juan Gonzalez and BJ Surhoff).

Congrats to Andre Dawson, Whitey Herzog and Doug Harvey on making the Hall of Fame. :techman:

So who's next? Griffey?
Bert Blyleven better be next. I think next year is his last year of eligibility.

Might have to get fans to change their "Circle Me Bert" signs to something to promote his name being circled.

Just took a look at Posey's stats in the minors VS his stats in the majors and, HOLY CATS!

Hellish improvement: Stats in the minors and majors. Right now, his average in the majors is better than it was in the minors!

Aragorn, I'm sorry, but I was distracted by your avatar. Who is she?

I don't care what the umpires say, that ball *bounced* off the field and into Trevor Crowe's glove... :brickwall:

On a lighter note: Congrats to Matt Garza. First Ray to throw a no-hitter! :techman:

I guess he doesn't have any minor league options. I don't have any idea what they're going to do with him. He's getting paid about $7mil

^ yeah, about that, what the hell is "Circle Me Bert" anyway? I saw a hundred of those damn signs at Target Field...

Not quite sure on the origins, but from what I've heard, it started down in Kansas City. Nowadays, if Bert circles you on the broadcast, you win MN lottery tickets (and about 15 seconds of fame). I've tried a few times. I once had a sign with boob cutouts that said "Hey Bert- Circle These". Needless to say, no one came up and gave me lottery tickets.

Good to see. A former Twins pitcher: We could sure use that arm right now. Didn't need it Monday, but I'm pretty sure the Twins won't score 19 runs too often.

I got to watch that no-no in Tampa last night. I've never seen one before, I always end up hearing about it on Sportscenter the next day.

Blyleven, Lee Smith, and Fred McGriff deserve to get in, maybe Bagwell.

Great game tonight with the Giants getting the long ball working for the win, and my man Posey hitting for his 20th game straight...only 2 away from tying Willie McCovey for longest hitting streak as a rookie. I also LOLd at the Marlins manager throwing a hissy fit over Brian Wilson's orange shoes, claiming they're too bright. Dude, their colors *are* black and orange...how is that not acceptable? Nobody complains about those retina-burning orange jerseys they wear on Friday night home games (which I love, especially because they're undefeated when they wear them). I'll admit that Wilson does look like a bit of a mess with his mohawk, unbuttoned jersey, tight pants and now the orange shoes...but I can't believe the Marlins manager actually bitched to the umps about them. :wtf:

The Rockies are now 2-10 since the all-star break and dropped to 4th in the NL West. Looks like I won't be bothered by any of those pesky post season games.

One bright spot in the Jays season: 11-0 record against Baltimore.

Though it is only Baltimore...
