Three DC Universe animated movies announced at Comic-Con for 2011

Bruce Timm has confirmed that Green Lantern: Emerald Knights is an anthology. Each segment will focus on a different Green Lantern. "Mogo Doesn't Socialize" seems a natural for inclusion.

In that case I'm very excited for Emerald Knights! I love all the crazy characters of the GLC... Guy... Killowag... Mogo... Salaak...

I could see them following up "Year One" with "The Long Halloween" personally my favorite out of the two Sale/Loeb Batman books is "Batman: Dark Victory" tons of great stuff in it and I love how they write Dick's origin and set up his relationship with Bruce.

Christopher I understand your dislike of the Tom Welling idea...believe me I share them. I was just thinking about how Clark is portrayed in All-Star Superman and oddly found myself hearing Tom's voice. It would never happen anyway I don't think. The voice actor who does Anakin Skywalker in the Clone Wars might be an interesting voice Andrea could play around with. I like his Anakin Skywalker. They'll probably go with a big name actor though. Chris Pine might be a possibility but he'll probably be busy.

Bruce Timm has said they looked at adapting The Long Halloween, but they couldn't figure out how to cut it down to a 75-minute movie. At this latest Comic-Con panel, though, Timm said that one of the stories they're looking at is something they'd like to make as a two-part release so that they can overcome the short running times and deliver a 150-minute epic. He said Justice League: The New Frontier would have worked a lot better as a two-part release, as I'm sure anyone who's read the comic and seen the movie would agree.

Direct to dvd release, this should be a no-brainer. Blu-ray release, it goes on one disc. Something like this shouldn't even be groundbreaking, they should just do it.

Batman: Year One?! Awesome!

The one and only thing that would make me happier than reading that would be reading that Kevin Conroy has been cast as Batman for Year One. In fact if I found out Conroy was cast for Y1 I would shit my pants. Not just a little shit pebble but a full fledged hurricane of shit would blast forth from my ass if I found out this was the case.

So does anyone know who is playing Batman in Y1? Better hurry, I gotta poop! :D

Yeah I thought much the same regarding Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/Batman for Year One but they will most likely go with someone else. I could see them splitting The Long Halloween into two films.

It's not just a question of space on a DVD, since you can easily fit three or four hours' worth of content on a single disk. It's a question of budget. The longer a movie is, the more it costs, and the studio only allots the producers so much money for each movie. The price point for the consumer is probably a factor too; a longer movie might have a higher purchase price and thus sell fewer copies. They've determined that 70-75 minutes per film is the best length in terms of budget and profit potential. So if Timm wants to make a movie twice that long, he has to plan and budget it as two movies.

Yes Timm responded to a fan question at the DC Short Showcase that the reason why the films aren't longer is due to budget reasons. He also stated that we wouldn't be seeing a Kingdom Come adaption despite loving the idea.

I thought the first Showcase compilation was going to be released next year, but it turns out it's this year. It'll be released on the 9th November. It'll feature Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam (in which Jerry O'Connell voices Captain Marvel, Arnold Vosloo voices Black Adam, and James Garner voices Shazam), The Spectre, Jonah Hex, and Green Arrow. The previously released shorts will be extended and the release will carry a lower price point than the DTV movie releases.

^That'll be my first chance to see the shorts, since they aren't included on the rental/Netflix editions.

And we have another DCAU return performer. O'Connell played Captain Marvel in Justice League Unlimited. Any word who's doing Superman in the short?

Yeah I saw the news regarding Dwayne McDuffie...too bad they couldn't get Grant to adapt his own work but he's kind of busy these days and Dwayne's a good choice. I'm looking forward to this.
