Pint's a Pound the World Around?

One U.S. gallon of water weighs approximately 8.35 pounds, meaning a U.S. pint of water weighs just over a pound -- 16.7 ounces, to be exact.

Imperial pints and gallons I don't know from.
So this pretty much translates to something I've always wondered whether it was true: 1l of water = 1 kg
Yes. In fact, when the metric system was invented, a gram (the basic unit of weight/mass) was originally defined as the weight of one ml (one cubic centimeter) of pure distilled water at maximum density.

*lost in all those foreign units*

I didn't know that it's that difficult to order a beer in a foreign country

It's not that hard.

Just order a 'bottle,' a 'pint,' or a 'pitcher,' depending on how thirsty you are. ;)

Well, a bottle of Spotted Cow is just around a pint, and grocery store cost is $1.17. I pay $2.50 a pint on draught at the local tavern, so it's awful damn close to a pound, although less now that the dollar has gained strength against the pound.

I need to move to where you are. I don't think I've ever paid less than about $4.75 for a pint on draught here.

Spotted Cow is a local-ish brew, with New Glarus being about an hour from where I live. It has become readily available on tap in southern Wisconsin and is usually available for less than $3.00 a pint. Unfortunately in northern Wisconsin, we were paying $17 a pitcher for it which is, pardon my language, quite fucked up.

Unfortunately, the local brews here tend to cost more than the big guys...

'I likes a pint,' persisted the old man. 'You could 'a drawed me off a pint easy enough. We didn't 'ave these bleeding litres when I was a young man.'

'When you were a young man we were all living in the treetops,' said the barman, with a glance at the other customers.
Actually, 1 liter = 1.05668821 Quarts (US). For all practical purposes, a half liter is the same as a pint. Especially to a drunk.

Spotted Cow is treated as a craft through most of the state. Those of us who leave near New Glarus get it sold as if it were a bitter in the truest sense of the traditional "working man's beer."
