I don't know about the irrevocable part. That's enough time to go through a number of sane/insane/sane/insane cycles.

Love it from beginning to end, love the redemption part. My favorite scenes though is when he just dosent give a shit because he knows it will never end. He punches the insurance guy in the face, I would have done the same. He had it comming, also when he's eating like a maniac and they look at him like he's crazy. Also when he steals the groundhog and drives off the cliff. The whole movie is awsome though, like learning to play piano or ice sculplt. I have nothing negative to say about that one. Another one I feel the same about is, "what about Bob?" Excellent comedy.

Thanks for this thread, it made me realize it has been way too long since I last saw Groundhog Day.
I love Bill Murray arguing with the highway patrolman. That's about as good as it gets for me when it comes to comedy. A brilliant, wonderful film that continues to hold up as so many of Murray's films do.
It's definitely in my top ten as far as comedies go. Great movie.
Yes, that's another great scene. "I make the weather!" and "Just a couple of flakes!" and "What if it's an emergency? What if I'm a celebrity. Well I'm both: I'm a celebrity in an emergency."
I'm not sure Murray's other films approach the greatness of Groundhog Day. Maybe What About Bob comes the closest.
I'd say Rushmore, Lost In Translation, Quick Change, Life Aquatic and What About Bob all come right up to Groundhog Day when it comes to greatness.
Here here, I think I'm gonna have to go get it on dvd this week. Shouldn't cost too much these days.
When you re-watch, be sure to listen to Harold Ramis's director commentary. He provides lots of cool trivia about the making of the movie.
Bill Murray will never, ever do a commentary track. I'm willing to bet money on this.
For "Stripes" they had to send a camera crew all the way to Tokyo (where he was filming "Lost in Translation") just so they could have footage of him drinking sake while relating vague memories of "Stripes."

I'm not too bothered if Murray is doing the commentray or not, though I would prefer it. I just don't tend to like listening to one person sit on their own talking to the mic throughout the movie. It ruined Serenity and ruined LOTR (the actors). Well ruined is a bit strong but you get the idea. I think you tend to get a lot more and a lot more interesting stuff out of two or more talking back and forth.
I prefer those, too, and I'd love to see Murray do a commentary track. I just can't imagine it ever happening.
