Surprised by XI's references

I decided to watch one of the TAS episodes, "Yesteryear", and believe that XI's writers must have drawn from the episode when deciding how to portray Spock's childhood. There are two particular references:

1. When Spock returns to his childhood to help his younger self survive an ordeal, he observes young Spock being tormented by three Vulcan boys who question his parentage. Young Spock attacks them.

2. When Sarek is lecturing young Spock afterwards, he tells him "Logic offers a serenity humans seldom experience," which is line from the movie.

I wonder....how many other little references are hidden in the movie, beyond the nods to the original series and the movies?

I was grinning from ear to ear to see the TAS scene remade in STXI.

The film had so many loving nods to other Treks I don't think they can all be counted. There were nods in the dialogue, in the props, in the sets, in the costumes, in the music...

I read somewhere when the film was released that one of the admirals from the assembly was named after a character in one of the old TOS novels (which is where George and Winona Kirk are from, btw). I have no idea if it's true, but I know one of the film's writers collects all the novels, so you never know (the early script on IMSDB.com actually had an obscure "Spock's World" reference!)

Agreed. There are many nods to various aspects of Trek in the movie. I've said it before, but when they made this movie, they did it as lovingly as possible. They cared about the source material.

I felt so.. respected.

And OP Uhura's first name, Nyota comes from a novel as well.

The TAS references are wonderful. At some point Roddenberry said he considered Yesteryear to be canon and it really did give us some great Vulcan/Spock insights.

Yes. Some great moments in the movie. Right now I may just watch it again for the umpteenth time just so I can see what I can find.
