Why did the Vulcans woory so much about Enterprise

The Vulcans kept holding back humans and saying that it was not time to let enterprise go, however by that time humans were already out into the galaxy i.e. cargo ships, they were already interacting with other species so why were they more concerned with enterprise exploring?

I always took it as the Vulcans sort of looked down on humans and envied them at the same time. The human race progressed quite far in the course of a few centuries, with Vulcan's help, and in many ways surpassed them. I think that the Vulcans knew that humankind could become quite powerful, in the known galaxy, and feared this.

Just before he sacrificed his own life to save Soval (ref. "The Forge"), Adm. Forrest asked Soval why the Vulcans were concerned about humans and Soval that humanity's progree in recent years worries them.

Re: Why did the Vulcans worry so much about Enterprise

I think the Vulcans were partially worried about the humans finding out about all their undercover crap against the Andorians, which they did.

Because Vulcan was a hegemony, a sort of soft empire, at that time, with Earth under its heel. The launch of the NX-01 and its diplomatic missions established United Earth as a legitimate interstellar political actor, and undermined Vulcan's control over Earth's government. It represented one of Vulcan's client states essentially getting out of line, and Vulcan feared that other client states would do the same and that Vulcan would lose its position of dominance over smaller worlds.

In other words, Vulcan was upset at the launch of the NX-01 for the same reason the United States was upset with Salvador Allende being elected President of the Republic of Chile.

The region's political make-up was rather unstable and volatile with several conflicts between space faring nations bubbling under the surface (Tellar vs. Andoria) or even out in the open to some extent (Andoria vs. Vulcan). Another power emerging - and one whose allegiance was unclear - could easily bring instability to the region of which the Vulcans, who thought they had the situation under control, were afraid.
Ultimately, Enterprise's mission and Earth's meddling did indeed destabilise the region, but it turned out to be a good thing, culminating in the Coalition and in bringing the various powers together. But it also led to the war with the Romulans who obviously felt threatened by Earth.

Why did the Vulcans woory so much about Enterprise

Because it's like having a new family moving into the neighborhood...and nobody likes trashy neighbors with their loud stereos and domestic disturbances and cars up on blocks in the front yard and Christmas lights hung and turned on year-round.

The Vulcans had been there for a while...they were the Big Dogs on the block...things had a specific order to them. Here come the humans, warp-capable, but not as "cultured"--almost like the "old money" and "new money" conflict, only it's more like "old warp" and "new warp." These intractable humans like to get into the middle of things, and, from the observations of the Vulcans, they also act before they think.

If the humans screwed up, they could potentially screw it up for everyone, not just themselves. Then..."there goes the neighborhood."

Humanity's progress also worried the Q as well :bolian:

I always saw the excuse as the Vulcans fearing Humans didn't exactly prove themselves enough yet, as Humanity just got out of their Third World War not too long ago..... plus the drunken dancing and antics of Zephram Cochrane during their first contact with humans..... I imagine they didn't have the best first impressions of us and our abilities.
