D'oh-ctor Who (DW Simpsonized)

I was quite surprised at how good the Simpsonized Doctor Who characters look.

If you want to see how BAD things could have gotten, check out this gallery of concept drawings for the (thankfully) aborted Canadian-made animated series that nearly got made back in the 90s:

(That said, the redesigned Cyberman looks kind of cool, and picture 8 and 9 do have a bit of a Tennant vibe to them...)

Picture 3 reminds me of Inspector Gadget.
Picture 14 is the WTF of the day.
And the less said about the horrible looking Dalek in picture 16 the better.

when I first saw them, I thought Amy looked a bit fat.

EEK! I didn't even realize that WAS a Dalek. At least the Cyberman kinda looked right. I agree with the Inspector Gadget comparison. Looks like they took a bunch of Doctor Who concepts and tossed them into a blender. I assume the "WTF" image is of Bessie. The girl companion illustrated was probably going to be called Sarah Jane...

Suddenly, a Johnny Depp remake doesn't seem to bad! (KIDDING!)

^I think it's pretty clear that's not what you were saying and Dimesdan has misunderstood you.

I'll cut'em a little slack. I suspect most of that stuff was really early pre-production sketches (compare an The Art of Star Wars book to the final effort sometime). But yeah. Damn.

I seriously doubt that Terry Nation's estate would have let them get away with that redesign.

Actially I kinda like the door interior of #12 though. And a flying Bessie would be kinda neet (except for the damn question mark radiator cap).

I tried not to read the descriptions too thoroughly because it looked like there might be some spoilers in them. Remember, BBC America hasn't finished the season yet. We're only up as far as episode 11 "The Lodger." And then there's tons of people in the U.S. waiting for the DVDs because they don't get BBC America at all. (It's usually only available on the most premium of cable packages.) You could warn people.

With all respect, as an American watching on BBCAmerica, I didn't quite know that they were spoilers until I posted the article! Like you, I only skimmed the words (I was more interested in the picture).

Cool. Simpsonised Who characters, I like it. :techman:

Love the versions of the doctor, especially the fez. Fez's are cool.

And WTF? Never heard of the cartoon almost coming into existence. Looks crappy anyway. Although, i like the Tardis door interior.

And i still have no computer. So im surviving on a few minutes a week at work on the office computer, barely enough to read a thread.

But i will hopefully get the caption contests up again soon.

A number of the pieces remind me of the first 'Heavy Metal' film. I loved the art for that film and would have loved to have seen a Doctor Who animated with that style.

I thought I would bump this since they've added River Song in a few different variations, as well as a fantastic wallpaper of all the characters.
