25th Anniversary and Judgment Rites

I just found that Abandonia.com has 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rites available as abandonware.

This is great news for Trek fans. These are two really great adventure games in the mold of 'King's Quest' and 'Space Quest'. The graphics aren't great, but the original cast is all there, and the banter between Spock and McCoy is awesome. I am replaying these for the first time in many years and enjoying them very much- I recommend you do the same!

I remember recieving 25th Anniversary as a freebie with Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. It was an amazing game.

You must tell us, do the voices work in that download version of Judgment Rites? I have the actual disc, and I can barely get the voices to work (what hoops I've jumped through!) If the voices play well there, I would be thrilled!

I thinking the "banter" he describes is just the text dialogue. I also grabbed it off Abandonia, and the version they offer there is the floppy disk version. The only one that had audio dialogue was the Collector's Edition CD.

Shatner's voice acting is JR is frankly embarrassing. He sounds half asleep when he's trying to convince that guard in the first episode that he knew his father so he should let them out.

Ah, who cares? It's better than silence.

No, actually it's not. I originally played the game with no voiceover....later when they released the one with voices, I was stoked, but couldn't afford it. A buddy of mine got it and I was so jealous....until I heard it.

Shatner isn't "acting".....he's reading the lines....and in a way that's as soul-less as possible. It's like watching an old guy, unclear on what these "video games" are, struggle with the idea of doing voice work for one. Despite the fact that he had done voice work for animation. Needless to say, after having heard him, I was more than happy to have the version that allowed me to use my imagination to "hear" him when he was at the top of his game.

No, his "performance" isn't just an embarassment, it's a disgrace.

It is for me, thanks. :)

If you're talking about the Star Trek cartoon, I thought the voice-acting there (from everyone) was just as bad as the game. What was worse there was how obvious it was that the lines were being recorded wild. I can understand that in a game with branching dialogue choices, but in TAS, I thought it absolutely killed the chemistry.

Ultimately, I don't think it's much different from complaining about the graphics. Sure, they're bad. Terrible, but that's the game. It is what it is; if your imagination is good enough that you feel it's an improvement on what's offered, great! (Similarly, I might get more enjoyment from reading the TAS novelizations, and imagining those stories in live-action.) But, for myself, I like hearing actual voices, even if the acting's lackluster.
