Picture a large black bird, like a huge, black eagle or something, maybe a really big hawk. It's soaring in the sky, ripping past snow-covered, lofty peaks. You can see he has these badass claws, jet to match his feathers. He soars and wheels, changing direction, casting a majestic shadow over the peaks and valleys. This bird is like awesome personified, viewing the earth and those of us chained to it from a perspective we can never really imagine. JaMarcus Russell is exactly like this bird, in one very specific way.

This bird does not give a flying fuck about football.

    Neither does JaMarcus.

Shine on, you fat, lazy bastard.

Let's take a look at previous (recent) drafts and come up with some big busts who were taken... top three, perhaps?

    2007 -- No. 1 -- JaMarcus Russell, QB, Raiders
    2005 -- No. 1 -- Alex Smith, QB, 49ers
    2003 -- No. 2 -- Charles Rogers, WR, Lions
    2002 -- No. 1 -- David Carr, QB, Texans
    2002 -- No. 3 -- Joey Harrington, QB, Lions
    1999 -- No. 1 -- Tim Couch, QB, Browns
    1999 -- No. 3 -- Akili Smith, QB, Bengals
    1998 -- No. 2 -- Ryan Leaf, QB, Chargers
    1995 -- No. 1 -- Ki-Jana Carter, RB, Bengals
    1994 -- No. 3 -- Heath Shuler, QB, Redskins
    1993 -- No. 2 -- Rick Mirer, QB, Seahawks
    1990 -- No. 2 -- Blair Thomas, RB, Jets

Then again, don't forget McNabb was No. 2 in 1999, so not all top 3's are bad.

I was just looking at busts who were taken top 3 (not counting injury-plagued players or players who sucked but found success later on). I didn't list everyone who was drafted in the top 3, obviously (no Manning or Rivers, for example).

It's been a while since we all posted, but our favourite quarterback's in trouble. JaMarcus has been busted on a drug charge. In true form, he's been charged with having unprescribed cough syrup. Even his crimes suck.

I'm quite happy that Calvin Johnson "fell" to the Lions at number 2 that year.
