PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 trailer is genuinely scary

if by "genuinely scary" you meant the complete opposite of that, then yeah....it was.

Seriously, it wasn't even spooky or even a little creepy.

It's not that hard to make something a little creepy by putting spooky music with a creepy person standing comatose and flash cutting shit moving quickly right at the camera.

Geez, that's film school 101. If you went to film school 40 years ago.

Can't we do better than that nowadays?

I could be wrong but I think they shot those parts by adjusting the variable frame rate to something like 12fps and were directed for her to stand there, rocking back and forth while he was directed to toss and turn every now and then, thus giving the illusion things were being sped up. This effect is called under cranking.

Or they did the more traditional time lapse method and captured every few seconds of that scene of her standing and rocking and him sleeping, just over a long period of time, say 10 to 15 minutes.

The only thing being "flash edited" as you say is the time code. I don't remember hearing any spooky music at all either. I dunno, I'm gonna have to watch it again and break it down.

Personally, I liked what they did with what they had to work with budget-wise. Was it overhyped? Yes. But goes to show that simple scare tactics are still effective. And not every horror movie needs the torture porn or the gore that's become stuffed down our throats for what seems like the last decade or so it's a bit refreshing, if you ask me. Which I know, I know, you didn't, so I can save you guys the trouble of replying with that retort. You cheeky monkeys, you.

I'm referring to the trailer, and there is definite flash editing, or shock cutting. It's not hard to elicit a jump scare when cutting into something already in the process of flying at the camera and sweetening it with a musical sting.

Nah. I just drink the whiskey and make the midgets fight each other with hockey sticks.

At some point prostitutes dressed like Darkstalkers characters show up and dance.

Also someone learns the true meaning of Christmas.

Top THAT, Paranormal Activity 2!

Enjoy that big, steaming cup of "Go fuck yourself"!

Will it be in 3D?

I saw the trailer before watching Twilight a couple nights ago. Was it supposed to be scary? I didn't see it. And obviously the "theater shots" of people acting scared was either just stock footage or from recordings of people watching the first movie.

But the trailer itself being scary?

Ummm how?! Oh! They smashed-cut from the baby's room, to a title card, and then back to baby's room with the shadow of a woman standing there!!!! AHHHHHH!!!! I wet my pants!

The first movie was "scary" in a "creepy, ghost-story" sort-of way but maybe I'm just not scared by movie anymore. Nothing about the PA2 movie struck me as scary.

:wtf:

Full stop.

You are dead to me.

Ok, to be fair I didn't see the movie because I'm interested in it or ther series. I went to see it because I was curious what the "theater experience" was like for it. I half-contemplated going to the midnight showing but I'm not insane.

Secondly, if I'm going to hate on these movies I need to hate them in an "informed" manner, which means having to see them. Otherwise I'm just an idiot, hater, troll.

Thirdly, I was bored.
