Bond cancelled

So Quantum of the Solace is Daniel Craig's last Bond movie? What a terrible way to go.

Well here's hopin they get the sale trough quickly and Craig is still on as Bond.

That is a highly suspect article though. Looking around Google news at the other outlets running this story in the last few days, this current crop of reports seems to stem from "a source" telling the Mirror that the crew have been told it has been canned, while EON have just said what they've been saying since April that the movie is on hold.

So I don't really know that the situation right now is any different than it was 3 months ago.

Taking the average of the IMDb ratings for Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, and comparing it to the averages of each of the other Bond actors' Bond films... Daniel Craig handily comes out on top.

In any case I hope he'll be back.

He only narrowly tops Connery, by less than 0.2 in terms of Connery's official Bond films and by about 0.4 if Never Say Never Again is included.

I knew I could lure someone else into running the numbers.

I was surprised that Brosnan came in last. I guess Die Another Day really was tha-INVISIBLE CAR! :guffaw:

Same here: I think Craig is the best Bond since Connery - although, should he not be available, I'd support Clive Owen in the role...

Yeah, until there's an official statement from EON, I'm going to regard this with a grain of salt.

Between this and The Hobbit, MGM is really pissing me off.

Oh, I'm a big enough geek that I'd already run the numbers before.

For those who are interested the IMDB averages for the official EON films by Bond actor are:

Daniel Craig - 7.40 (2 films)
Sean Connery - 7.23 (6 films)
George Lazenby - 6.90 (1 film)
Roger Moore - 6.60 (7 films)
Timothy Dalton - 6.60 (2 films)
Pierce Brosnan - 6.48 (4 films)

The "sale" has been going on for like 2 years, they will never be sold, they will go bankrupt and then pieces of what is left will be sold.

And comparing Bonds with 2 movies to that with 4-5-6-7 is a joke, obviously the more you do the worst they can be, plus people's taste for 1960s movies in the 2000s is different than if the site had been running since the movies are out.

I honestly don't understand how a company with so many great franchises can crash and burn so spectacularly.

Poor Pierece  I always felt that Brosnan got screwed over as far as Bond films were concerned. He had the look and attitude of Bond, but nothing could save the terrible plots of the movies he was in.

So if history repeats itself, any leading men on TV right now with accents who can get the role in several years? :)

GoldenEye is rated as one of the best Bond films (it's currently the fifth highest rated Bond film on IMDB), but his other three Bond outings are all in the bottom five for the series.

IMDb ratings mean nothing, especially when you consider how many movies get voted up or down by people who never saw them or who have silly, meaningless agendas. In the case of The Asylum, a lot of their high ratings apparently come from people who work for them (there are a lot of posters in their forums who only comment on how great Asylum movies are).

Has MGM got any films out at the moment or is everything on hold?

Essentially everything in development -- The Hobbit, Darren Aronofsky's RoboCop (which was already having creative issues), Bond 23 and any other films that have been in pre-production at the studio -- is on hold until MGM isn't so broke that it can't afford a gallon of milk and some eggs.
