Janeway's Voice

omg I don't know what is going on with this thing today... I can't even edit :scream:

any who I was gonna say... That YOU Admiral are a fountain of info!!

I bet that it would have sounded better if they left it alone.

I always assumed she was singing through her nose in a misguided attempt to fake a Texas accent. Because I am from the South and I always assume Yankees are doing such silly things when they play Southerners.

I am glad you cleared it up, Admiral.

This is the third time in as many days I've lost a post, this time in classic eps. I know how you feel! :klingon:

When it comes to Kate, I'm a regular encyclopedia of knowledge. :D

Oh, don't get me wrong. She was doing an awful job of faking a Texan accent, but her bad singing was thanks in large part to post-production. ;)

Eh, her errors were only those of pronunciation. She handled the accent in a dignified manner, at least. Or - as dignified as possible for a role which involves being a slut and causing men to engage in fist fights over you.

Garnet FTW!

Dallas is my hometown, so I might be picker than many when it comes to a Dallas Accent versus a general Texan accent. ;)

I can see where people are coming from with the dislike of her voice. It's occasionally grated on me but despite not generally liking the character, her voice hasn't been something i have despised.

Sometimes I like how she sounds, sometimes I don't and other times I just don't really notice. It's never been a sticking point for me.

It's usually pretty rare that I dislike people's voices though, and if I like them enough, an unusual voice can become endearing over time because I associate the sound with that person.

I remember how, after seeing "Caretaker," I thought her voice sounded "funny." 15 years later, I can't imagine Janeway sounding any other way. :) She just is what she is. And it sounds incredible when she's pissed!

However, I will admit that if I watch VOY with a headache/sickness, I need to keep the volume down a bit. And I think her voice works best in those low, dangerous tones; it can get pretty harsh when she's yelling. Although that really doesn't happen often (exception is "Memorial," when her yelling was perfect for the scene, imo.) So, yes, I can see where the criticism comes, too. I don't think it's for everyone. Also, her voice is rather strained until Season 3, which is when I assume they let her speak normally.

Have any of you played Dragon Age? I didn't know going in that KM did Flemeth's voice. I was quite happily plowing through the story, met Flemeth, and got through several lines of dialog before I realized there's only one person alive who sounds like that. They made Flemeth look a little like her, too. After I figured it out, I made sure to be a good fan and listen to as many of the dialog options as possible!

I can easily visualize Janeway in her sweaty save-the-day tank taking a drag on a cig and following it up with a swig of whiskey whilst lounging on her throne on the Bridge.

I liked Kate's voice. I can see why people wouldn't. Have you heard the original Janeway's voice. Geneveive Bujold's voice was horrendous! She sounded like she had just had a tracheostomy and no anaesthetic. Not to mention her acting was shite. We are so lucky Bujold walked off the stage in a fit or we'd never have compassioante, warm, strong, consumate Mulgrew.

Actually, Bujold has the sort of voice I'd want reading me a bedtime story. :)

If you've ever played WoW.. Lady Sylvanas the Banshee Queen of the Forsaken (lol) has a voice like Kate's. There is an instance where she is running along side you through the whole thing spurring you on and having little monologues and she has this throaty deep cutting damn sexy voice. She has a voice you would follow anywhere.

I couldn't stand her voice initially. It was one of the main reasons I didn't watch the show back then.
Now, a few years later, and a few more, I get it. I love that low, sexy female voice and would love to have dinner ready for that Captain when her day is done. :)

I thought I'd gone mad from watching too much Voyager when I heard both Janeway and Tuvok's voices in Dragon Age, I had to google it to check I was right.
