World Cup 2010 - South Africa Thread

I hereby declare that from this day foward, I will never, ever complain about Wembley '66 again!

Yep, England. Kharma is, as always, a bitch.

God knows what could have happened if that goal had been given.

What do you mean if? I don't see how the linesman, referee, and 4th official could've missed that one. To put it politely they were fucking useless cunts. The ball was over the goal by at least one foot. It's not like the case in Wembley 66 where the margin was maybe a few centimeters.

Irrespective of the result, and there can be little argument that Germany thoroughly deserved to win, the issue of goal-line technology has to be revisited.

However, while the commentary team were ripping into Blatter and Fifa predominantly, let's now forget, a blind man with a bag over his head could have told you that that was a goal, without the aid of technology. It was just a shocking decision.

Luckily I don't think it would have made any real difference. Some will probably say that England's mentality would probably have been different in the second half and wouldn't have been as aggressive and prone to the counterattack. However, with the state of our defence I doubt that we'd have kept them out for 45 minutes, or another 30 had it gone to ET.

Yeah, if you don't see that the ball was behind the line in that case, no technology in the world will help you... Unbelievable.

I think it would have changed the flow of the game significantly because at that point Germany was rather headless, pretty needlessly, I should add. Would England have won? I don't know. Germany was the better team and they probably would have recovered after the half-time break, but then again, England was pretty strong after the break and didn't score again, so who knows? It would have been much tighter, that's for sure.

England very poor. Germany good on the break but show some definite weakness at the back that better sides than England could exploit. I'm almost disappointed I'll miss the national deflation across England tomorrow.

Let's be fair, this performance hasn't come out of the blue. We were largely awful against the United States and Algeria as well, just not THIS woeful.

Despite qualifying with ease, we've struggled ever since, through the warm up games, through the group stage, and now here, in the knockout stages.

I just don't understand why we changed everything around once we'd qualified. Why did Heskey come back into the reckoning?

Beckenbauer said that this was the last WC for a few of our big name players, and he's right. That being the case we may as well replace them now rather than in a couple of years' time.

I don't think it'll be that bad to be fair. It's not like this has come out of the blue, the warning signs have been there all the way through the group.

Bet the England players wish they'd pushed for a second goal against Slovenia now.....

The sad thing is that either Germany or Argentina (assuming they beat Mexico) will have to face each other in the next round, taking out yet another super power before the final four.

I don't really have a problem with that. It just means that big nations have to play a series of difficult games. Much more interesting.

It's sort of the point of a World Cup, anyway. In the end, there will be only one undefeated nation.

I don't know if this was brought up before, but is it possible that Maradona was brought in to take the pressure and spotlight off the Argentian players?

Go Away Now Capello and take several squad members with you. Its funny how so many told him Green was an average keeper, Gerrard can't work on the left come the actual World Cup (Q/F is much easier to get away with things), Lampard and Gerrard you can't play both when it really matters and oh Rooney up front please not drifting back.

We were all right and Fabio was wrong simple as.

Roy Hodgson for the job.

Typical fcuking Fifa.

Apparently they're very, VERY unhappy that England fans booed the German national anthem before kickoff.

Absolutely right Sepp, it shouldn't happen, but let's face it, it doesn't potentially change the course of the game, like say, having perfectly good goals disallowed might.

Fcuking c*nt.

Well, it's still bad form. He's right to criticise it.

And another bad call - that was clearly offside. Something has to happen in regards to the awful refereeing that we've seen during this World Cup.
Does anyone know why the Argentinians play in blue trunks, not in the traditional black ones?
