Hahaha, just when I thought that finally there would be a clear game for once, something like the disallowed goal by Lampard happens...
I'm glad England woke up, though at the expense of the German team and especially Neuer, who really blundered before the 2:1. It would have been sad if they had gone out like that.

That said, go Germany! If nothing else, they have their Polish born players scoring goals, which is about as close as Poland is going to get to any kind of World Cup glory!

Despite the Lampard (no) goal I don't think we can have too many complaints about that. Probably an appropriate ending to a shambolic campaign; No sign of Rooney, no sign of Gerrard, and a token effort from Lampard. Arguably our best three players and nothing from them.

The defence, woeful. Dragged around the pitch for 90 minutes. Germany picked holes through the back four for fun.

On the other hand, congratulations to Germany, that was an awesome display. Easily the best performance at the world cup yet, albeit helped by a pathetic England showing, but still, they were on fire.

If I were Fabio, if he's still in a job, I'd seriously start thinking about breaking that team up. A good number of them won't be around for the next WC so let's get the new players in there now and start getting them experience.

Ironic that when he was injured we seemed to bestow talisman status on Gareth Barry. After performances against Algeria, Slovenia and Germany, you really have to wonder why, he was fcuking awful.

Oh well, at least we don't have to bitch and whine about Lampard's disallowed goal now.

I feel sorry for the English, though. I do think that Germany was the better team overall, but if the refs hadn't been blind regarding Lampard's non-goal, the game would have played out differently. Apparently, it's the highest defeat for England in a World Cup, but I don't know whether that's really true. Granted, the game was over at 3:1 but I think that England put up too little of a fight after that.

In any case, the football God is obviously German. (And his wife is Brazilian...)

I wonder if the back four were playing the same game as the rest of the team? They were nowhere during the German counter-attack. David James was rightly peeved.

Germany were wonderful, though. No doubt those memories of 1966 and 2001 will have been swept aside by this result.

That's one of the problems for us, we try and accomodate star players at the expense of a decent team dynamic.

We'll either pick them team based on the players, or, we pick the system but then try and wedge our star players into it.

The question's been asked many times over the last week of why Germany do so much better than we do in major tournaments. I'd suggest that this is at least part of the reason why.

Re Walcott above, I still don't know why he was left at home while we brought SWP with us. Equally, I'm really glad that we brought Heskey with us. When we were 1-4 down and I saw Heskey coming on I felt sure that we'd pull the game back around........!
