'Akira' live-action for 2013 in dev. w/ Hughes Brothers as dir.

Personally, I think they'll cast relative unknown Asian actors as Kineda and Tetsuo, but surround them with an international cast, including at least one very well known American actor whose face will be plastered prominently on the photo ads as if he's the main character (even though he really won't be)...

Ruairi Robinson is no longer attached to this? That's a pity, I really liked his short work and was looking forward to his first feature film.

If they're going to bring it to a US setting, I think the SF bay is probably the better choice over NY. I don't really think of streetbike gangs when I think NY,NY.

It'll be interesting to see what's worse, this or the Bebop movie.

That's assuming any of these propose live action anime, of which there's at least 6 or 7 that I can count off the top of my head, ever get made which is a long shot.

I just hope they're actually good and not garbage like the Blood: TLV live action film.

Oh, we have them
I don't doubt it, just saying it isn't something that immediately springs to mind the way it does for SF. For me at least.

I saw this on Current TV a while back about Harlem bike gangs which seems somewhat Akira-ish.

WB's seems closer to making a decision on whether to give the film a greenlight after the filmmakers gave a presentation on Wednesday to Warner execs that included a revised budget. Sources say most people are confident execs will be happy with the new budget ... but you never know in this town. Be prepared for some kind of decision sometime next week.

so find out next week... at least its an update on filmmakers giving a presentation.

Kind of think Wachowskis should have taken this anime on instead of Speed Racer. Is there even a go-to director for anime adaptations, basically the equivalent to Uwe Boll? Not like I want somebody of that caliber to direct this, bu just a general question.

So they've given it a yellowlight?

Hmm, I thought this was dead, and had written it off, but it seems there's some hope for it, however slim.
