Songs that remind you of TrekBBS members (and other people)

Zulu Romeo

World Famous Starship Captain
Admiral
Similar to the fictional characters similar to TrekBBS members, this got me thinking.

During my commute to work, I listen to a lot of music on my mp3 player of choice. One thing I listen to is a lot of 80s music (OK, much of it was in the form of mashup :p) and I couldn't help but notice that most of the songs remind me of the many quirky personalities found within the members (sometimes more than one personality per person ;)) on this here very TrekBBS - whether it be in the lyrics and lyrical themes, the performers and their backgrounds, the musical harmonies and melodies, the style and feel of the music, or something else intangible.

Here are some that remind me of some of the people who are (at the time of writing, anyway ) on my TrekBBS Friends List, for example:

Kestra: "Living on the Ceiling" - Blancmange
JonathonWally: "Bring The Noise" - Public Enemy
Emher: "One Night In Bangkok" - Murray Head
Squiggy: "Get Out Of Your Lazy Bed" - Matt Bianco
auntiehill: "We Built This City" - Starship
Holdfast: "Relax" - Frankie Goes To Hollywood
captcalhoun: "Just Can't Get Enough" - Depeche Mode

It might not make sense to most people. But in my twisted and broken mind, I seem to associate these songs to these people. It seems to make sense to me. Perhaps.

So.

Do you attribute certain songs to certain people, either in real life or (specifically to this thread) the TrekBBS? If so, which songs do you associate best with those people?

Oh, and seeing as I am encouraging comparisons with members of the TrekBBS, who after all very real people at the end of the day, please be nice to each other. After all, we're not at home to Mr. Petty or Mr. Rotten or Little Miss Cheeky.** :D

Holdfast: "A Spoonful of Sugar" - Mary Poppins
Zion Ravescene: "More than a Feeling" - Boston
Jenee: "867-5309" - Tommy Tutone (sorry Jenee  )
Locutus of Bored: "Hold on Loosely" - .38 Special
Trampledmage: "Thunderstruck" - AC/DC
RoJoHen: "Pick Up the Pieces" - Average White Band
Spaceman Spiff: "Back to the Future Theme" - Alan Silvestri

More to come. :D

Zion Ravescene: "More than a Feeling" - Boston

Ah, that one from the Barclaycard advert! :bolian:

Some more that spring to mind:

Bob the Skutter: "Caravan of Love" - The Housemartins
Hermiod: "Running In The Family" - Level 42
T'Bonz: "Blackbird" - The Beatles
ElimParra: "I Need You Tonight" - INXS
Flukie: "Never Gonna Give You Up" -Rick Astley (sorry :p)
Sarek of Vulcan: "White Lines (Don't Do It)" - Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
cooleddie74: "All Night Long" - Lionel Ritchie
Orac Zen: "Don't Go" - Yazoo

The funny thing is seeing how well each of these songs complement each other, reflecting the interactions between the relevant TrekBBS posters. Just an observation, perhaps...

I associate Locutus of Bored with "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie. Once of us had posted something about it in some random thread and the other liked it as well, so that's the reason for the association. Plus I can imagine him rocking out to Queen.

I don't really have any songs like that (apart from something Flukie made with Spider and myself), but I am reminded of the board itself whenever I hear this:

^My sincere apologies!

I don't read music, you see... hadn't spotted that :(

This more correct?

I not sure I'd want to know what song people would assign to me.

**shakes with uncertainty**

Kestra--"Apocalypse" by Bear McCreary (in this thread I recorded part of the vocals and sang it myself--though certainly not to that quality), or something by Sheila Chandra (possibly "Om Namaha Shiva," though I probably need to get off the destruction theme!). This is also, incidentally, the theme I use for Gul Rebek in my fanfic, whom I picture as being played by Bollywood actress Rani Mukherji.

Rush Limborg--One of the most patriotic sci-fi themes ever goes to him: the end title from ID4. One year, the fireworks at the Capitol were done to this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFxM_lqPV4A

i'm utterly perplexed by your choice for me (although flattered i get a mention this time around). listening to it on YT all i can say is, it sounds so cheesily 80s i think i ought to feel insulted...but i'm not. (yet)

Una McCormack--A few songs from Les Mis that fit the way she wrote The Never-Ending Sacrifice. The irony is that she's never read that book--but really should. ;)

"Work Song": A first look at the paranoid environment of Cardassia-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw8ycKG54zU&feature=related

"Look Down": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ-aCHO8kug (Rugal could stand in for Gavroche easily.)

"Do You Hear the People Sing": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7sx1iQrCPw&feature=related

"Empty Chairs at Empty Tables": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osmxLwEZauk (The revolution fails)

A couple songs that have the mood she portrayed Tekeny Ghemor in, even though the lyrics do not quite match. (Though the last one gets very close.):
"Bring Him Home": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se9HxpitvRg
"Finale": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s25r0dHGJM0

T'Bonz: Eurythmics--"Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves" A tribute to her great work on behalf of the women on this board. :)

Trampledmage: "Thunderstruck" - AC/DC

 Interesting... :shifty:

Emher: "One Night In Bangkok" - Murray Head

Actually I'd associate this more with Holdfast than Emher :D

The only person I directly associate with music is macloudt - and that's with Rammstein, because the way I say her username with the d and the t together sounds like a word in a Rammstein song! So I think of them when I read her name and think of her when I hear the song. Apologies to macloudt for this :alienblush:

I shall definitely ponder some more though... Especially for captcalhoun, because there's something there in the back of my mind I just have to figure it out...
