World Cup 2010 - South Africa Thread

I hate them for putting me on edge like that. :scream:  It's maddening. Every game they've been in has been a nail biter. It's high drama, worthy of a good Klingon ballad.
That's football for you. :techman:

The Americans will blame their exit from the World Cup on the referees.

I'd blame it on the fact they couldn't beat either of the two supposedly weaker sides in their group, Slovenia or Algeria.

And we'll be around to listen to Callan tell us how it was all fixed because the world hates America.
Actually, that would be enough reason to hope for it. Whatever pisses Callan is good in my book. ;)

THANK GOD FOR THAT MY HEART NEARLY DIED :scream:

I think we should always play in red and on the BBC ;)

I need a large beer now.

I'm relatively optimistic for the match tonight. Ghana scored two goals, both from penalties and their defense looks a bit shaky. So does ours to be honest, but I think it's better than Ghana's.

But we shall see, bigger upsets have happened this WC.

It would be a historic failure if we didn't advance. We've never flunked out in the first group stage in any World Cup (and we took part in all but two). Neither the team, which is playing rather well and enthusiastically, nor the coach deserve to enter the annals of football in this way.

Which makes it very entertaining. But it's also bad footballing and eventually someone (Germany, Ghana?) is going to call their bluff, score early and then build a fortress of 11 men to defeat our famed "comeback kid" momentum.

I'm happy we've made it this far, but this come from behind shit is going to have to give or we'll not go much further. Still, I have faith in team Altidore-Donovan. First two games were typical, this one wasn't. Maybe next time, we'll actually....*gasp*....score first. One can only hope.

Every time we've lost a WC group stage game, we've reached the final. That's a tough statistic to keep alive.

I agree that we were among the best 16 teams so far, but football can be surprising that way.

We'll know more in two hours. :)

Ooh, Boateng vs. Boateng. And again just one striker. :(
I think I would have preferred Aogo over Boateng as leftback, more experience having played LB for HSV. I'm fine with just one striker though. Our offensive midfield is better this way. I just hope Löw doesn't keep Podolski on for 90 minutes if he wastes as many chances again.

God damn that was a bit nailbiting at the end but very well played England. Great team performance, and was it me or was Terry trying to do a Beckham by being everywhere! You'd almost think he had something to prove ;)

We really should have won more comfortably, but I'd have taken one nil before hand so I'm happy. To be honest the manner of the victory was as important as the victory. We played as a team, we passed and moved and looked dangerous. Capello has to keep this team in place, no matter who we end up playing Sunday.

Our defense sucks, well, at least half of it, and we also suck at standards now and make too many mistakes. Damn.

It would be funny if both games ended 0-0, I just don't think it'll happen.

Serbia better start scoring...

Any other Canadians sick of the Coke commercial with Roger Milla's dance celebration? It was cute the first time, not the millionth time.

The Aussies have two!

A few more goals here and there, and we could be seeing five African nations out, with Cote d'Ivoire still to go...
