The Pandorica Opens, got an audience of 5.9 million viewers for episode 12, The Pandorica Opens, according to unofficial overnight figures.

5.4 million watched on BBC One with an additional 0.5 million watching on BBC HD

The episode was the most watched show of the day, with the World Cup on ITV1 only bringing in 5.2 million for the Cameroon v Denmark match

The Appreciation Index figure for Episode Twelve of Doctor Who, The Pandorica Opens, was 88, highest of the series so far.

Just under half a million watched the BBC 3 repeat.

With the numbers being way off this season I wil bet 7.5 million ish come the final numbers so I will say at least 8 million will probably end up watching part 2.

If England win on wednesday and top there group then England would play directly after Doctor Who so a lot more people would be tuned into BBC 1 before hand.

Heres some press reaction...

The Daily Telegraph called the episode "Sensational, propelling the viewer on a gripping adventure with plenty of shocks and surprises, leavened with more emotional and humorous material for a heady mix."

The Express calls the story "classic fairytale, aimed, as always, at a family audience, with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan now complete in their respective roles". They make a plea to the BBC to safeguard the budget for the series saying it is one of the crown jewels and should be protected.

Den of the Geek said "How good was that? We’ve been salivating at the thought of what Steven Moffat could do with a finale two-parter since he first got the top job on Doctor Who. The answer? A lot".

The Guardian blog says you need to watch this episode at least three times to get a proper handle on every little bit that's going on. Thing is, you'll want to.

Also final numbers for The Lodger should be up within the next 48 hours.

:techman:

Better than I expected though, what with the bloody football and all. Turns out it actually did better than the WC game.

The Lodger finals are in and they jumped over 1.8 million in the finals...

Final figures for Episode Eleven of Doctor Who, The Lodger, published by BARB show the episode was watched by 6.44 million viewers

On BBC One the programme got 5.98 million watching where it was the sixth most watched programme for the channel for the week. An additional 0.464 million watched on BBC HD

I don't think we will see as big a rise in the Pandorica Opens episode but were still on for over 7 million pushing towards 7.5 :techman:

I don't have a final share number for the episode yet as they take longer to be calculated as we wait for finals from other shows on at the same time but it will probably be better than 1 in 3. (33%). Also BTW the overnight share for Episode 12 was 31.5% so theres a good chance we might reach 40% come the finals ;)

Here's hoping an epic season finale will bring some of those fans of 'The David Tennant Show' back into the fold.

Wow, the season has been going downhill ratings wise hasn't it? I didn't realise almost half the Eleventh Hour audience had gone by the time Pandorica Opens aired.

That's pretty sad. Hopefully things pick up next season.

Not sure if those figures include iplayer or not though, I suspect a lot more people watch Who like that these days than before. Hell a woman I work with who watchs Who with her family says they still haven't watched the Lodger, let alone The Pandorica Opens! But they will...

I suspect the BBC always expected a drop off in ratings once the golden boy left. I don't think there's anything to really worry about as those figures still seem healthy to me, especially given its summer and there's a World Cup on.

Yes, I must say I'm not that surprised - there was bound to be more interest as everyone tuned in to see what the new guy was like. Those casual viewers have since fallen away leaving the die-hards to continue watching - and there are still quite a few of them.

Yes, it's a smaller audience watching than the one that drooled over Tennant the last few years but they'll pick up again. I'm just glad this new guy is not such a teenage chav magnet; hopefully this means the average IQ of the show's audience has risen somewhat...

I don't get all this negative feeling...

Doctor Who in final numbers are getting between 33-40% audience share with most episodes over 7 million bar the summer ones that normally would drop. The numbers do NOT include I player numbers far as I know and this season has seen Doctor Who set new records for I Player so you can increase those numbers infact I saw a great bar chart with the added I player nubmers I will try to find again and post. I player numbers are always going up but you can add 1-1.5 million for most episodes come several weeks after it airs.

The final numbers will be 7.5 ish million probably so thats not bad coming off 10 million 12 weeks ago. 11th hour overnight ratings were just 8 million.

The simple fact is this year less people are watching TV and remember it was 2 years ago since the last season of Doc Who since 2009 was all specials. David Tennant had the advantage of classic villians to near end to boost ratings with Daleks/Cyberman fighting each other, The Master, Davros and not too mention Billie leaving in season 2 plus the regeneration cliffhanger scene in season 4...

all creating more media hype while Moffat has gone for a different style to RTD. Ratings are very strong especially with BBC timetable this year and World Cup not helped but I love football so thats ok :p

Oh believe me, there are plenty of Matt Smith droolers out there. I don't get the David Tennant drool, because personally I find him ewwww. I'm still trying to get a friend of mine to try the show again; she quit watching because she couldn't stand Tennant.

I don't get the drop off in viewers either, since I've read nothing but positive reviews of Matt Smith as the Doctor. I stumbled across this wonderful article yesterday in fact. Most of the critics and naysayers who moaned that he was too young for the role are now eating their words. What more do people want?

I've heard a few people at work say that their kids are just not interested any more.:(

Great article. Summed up everything I've been thinking about Smith myself this year. Not every episode has been a winner, but his performance has been brilliant all the way through.

It's even more amazing when you hear recent comments from him about how nervous and uncertain he was about his performance. Because on screen it looks SO incredibly confident and assured.

Eh, so be it. Much like with some adults, I have a feeling many of the newer kids watching the show were only drawn to it because the Doctor was suddenly "cool and hip."

Now that he's back to being a complete geek and weirdo, they're no longer as interested.

Yes but also those kids are probably older now, we can only hope that a new generation is coming through for whom Matt Smith is the Doctor :techman:

I do seriously wish the BBC would reschdule it for the autumn months though, I don't think having it on over summer helps.

That said the figures are still very healthy (does anyone know off hand what kind of numbers Merlin gets (or Robin Hood did get) in a similar slot? I'd be willing to guess Who's is still quite a bit higher and MErlin's still going so I think we're safe for a few years yet!

Heck I think Spooks was down to about 3 million this year and the Beeb are still brining it back...I believe!

Awesome article, DAK! The reviewer is spot-on with his assessment of Smith's skill. The Eleventh Doctor is going to be one of the crown jewels of the series legacy. I expect to see him so revered as to appear with the 27th Doctor in Time Crash II in 2040... :techman:

Exactly. He's so much fun to watch (and not just because I think he's gorgeous!). I rarely watch an episode of anything a second time, but I've watched each episode from this season multiple times. It never gets old.

Well, if being able to play soccer, er football, as well as he did first time out isn't cool and hip, then I don't know what is! Besides, all of the Doctors, even Eccleston and Tennant, were written as weird and geeky at times.

Wow, I hope I'm still around to see that.

Not all kids have given up and walked away.

Both of children were pretty upset to see DT go, yet they now claim Matt as their favorite. My daughter, 14, absolutely adores him.

Boy, THIS!

Get the program away from Britains Got Talent, the bloody World Cup, and of course 'Ratings are down because the sun came out this weekend!' :scream:

Putting in back for the fall means potentially running into The X Factor a bigger show than BGT though I would like a season to start in September.
