Did anyone else notice this? Vader in STXI

Those are pretty tame to what Zim and the others have called fans. I consider Zim to be trolling every time he comes into a thread and derails it to an Anti-Star Trek rant.
But this really isn't the place to be raising that question, right?

Patrickivan
, if there are posts which you believe warrant further scrutiny by staff, then you know where the "notify mod" button is; however, in-thread accusations of trolling are generally considered to be poor form and are to be avoided. While we're at it: 6, perhaps you could pay Zim a little less attention? Wouldn't want to give anyone the impression that you're following him around.

Now, if we can get back to talking about the topic, please, instead of about each other?

Looks like I have another "admirer.":alienblush:

Wow. It's good to be back!

All I'm going to say to this is: Please, pretty please, try as you might to find one single post of mine in which I have called anyone any type of derogatory name. I do not resort to namecalling. It's childish and immature. And I refuse to sink to that level. Thank you. Have a nice day.

Oh, BTW, I started this thread. So in this case, it is you doing the derailing.:guffaw:

Wasn't the Millennium Falcon in First Contact? That director must hate Star Trek as well!

It was indeed. If I'm not mistaken it was barely visible somewhere in the Borg battle scene. I had never noticed it until someone mentioned it on one of these boards. It was a neat touch. Little, barely noticeable references like that are neat. They're like true easter eggs. You have to look for them and then it's a treat when they're found. What I don't like is blatant, in-your-face obvious references that are almost impossible to miss. There were so many of them in STXI, it irritated the heck out of me. R2D2 floating by in the debris field would have been fine. But everything else was just too much. I, personally, wanted to watch a Star Trek movie, not thinly veiled Star Wars remake. But, once again, that's just me. Apparently eveybody else is perfectly alright with it. And that is fine. But since this is a Star Trek discussion board, I felt the need to discuss Star Trek, both the good and the bad.

Then just don't watch the movie again, so you'll never have to let it bother you. Problem solved.

Not a bad idea. And I haven't watched it in a while. Problem is my wife likes to watch it just to annoy me. And she has it on the DVR, so every once in a while, she'll play it just to hear me fuss. The other problem is, it really was a good movie, despite its plethora of flaws. And it is really brainless fun to watch. As long as you don't pay too much attention or you'll pull your hair out trying to make sense of the mess that the movie gets itself into. So, even though I hate that JJA has seen fit to transform Star Trek into generic sci-fi fluff for the short attention span masses, I can't deny that it was actually a fun, action packed movie. So whaddaya do?

Edit: Oh yeah! I totally forgot about Captain Pike's "Punch it" refernece to Han Solo in ESB(?), when he tells Chewie to "punch it". The only reason that is significant is that IIRC, I don't think any starship captain in Star Trek history has ever said "punch it". I could be wrong. And it's a bit morre than coincidental that there are so many other SW references in the movie and that is simply one of many.

Still don't get the Keenser=Jar Jar thing.

I think it's more of a reference to the Ewoks than Jar-Jar.

I'd call Keenser an EWROK, He/She? doesn't look anything like an over sized floppy-eared cow to me.

After that comment, I'm tryin' to figure out why you let anything posted around here... bother You?

You can't deny that the Star Wars references are there...

So what's the big deal if the OP points them out??

Then leave your wife. Again, problem solved.

Because if you've read his supposed SW references, you'd see that almost every single one of them are completely subjective. He hasn't convinced me at all that this movie is "full" of SW references like he claims. About the only thing that he has convinced me of is that he's good at only seeing things he wants to see. Personally, I don't give a crap whether he thought the movie was great or that it sucked. But since he started this topic, I have every right to counter what he says if I don't agree with it. Does that answer your question?

Nah. I kinda lik her.;)

I disagree. The references are blatant and obvious to anyone who has ever seen the Star Wars movies. If I get time, I'll do a side-by-side comparo with discriptions of each scene and explanations of exactly why they are obvious references.

BTW, love your new avatar. You know, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. :)

You're welcome. And please, feel free to use your valuable time for useless minutiae like a comparison chart of completely subjective references. I'll give it all the scrutiny it deserves.

10-4. It may take a while, though. Especially considering that I don't have a great deal of "spare" time, what with the wife and kids and friends and job and all. I'll probably post a comparo vid on youtube. It'll be more convincing that way.:)

You mean like this?

Yeah. That one's pretty good. But the one I plan to post will compare each individual scene that JJA bummed from Star Wars and show the similarities. We already know JJA wanted to inject more Star Wars into Star Trek, whether it needed it or not. But some are still not convinced that there are actual similarities, no matter how blindingly obvious they may be.

Edit: I kind of like this one better.
