They might be in for a bit of a shock

Once they look into the back of the trailer that they have stolen.

A "delightful" Bengal tiger, named Jonas, and two camels named, Todd and Sean, have gone missing in eastern Canada after thieves drove off with the truck and trailer they were travelling in.
The three animals, en route to the Bowmanville Zoo on the outskirts of Toronto, were stolen along with the vehicles, after their driver stopped for the night in the French-speaking province of Quebec, zoo director Michael Hackenberger said.
"Our concern is that the animals were last watered at 11:00 at night and so that's over 12 hours ago," he said.
and

Mr Hackenberger said he did not believe thieves had targeted the animals and the region where the trailer was stolen has had other similar vehicle thefts.
Rest of story here

Aren't Todd and Sean rather silly names for camels?

I've just checked the CBC news site and they haven't been found yet - I wonder if it's made my local news show.

I can remember, years ago now, when mr trampledamage and I went on a driving holiday in Ontario, the RV hire firm warned us about going into Quebec because there were always a lot of vehicle thefts. Guess not much has changed...

I hope the thieves drop the animals off somewhere other than the Bowmanville Zoo. I went there once as a kid, and it's pretty depressing... the enclosures are way too small and not very well-designed, as I recall. Maybe it's changed, but compared to a proper zoo, like the Toronto Zoo, it was pretty bad.

Zookeeper: You can't leave that lyin' around here!
Thief: That's not a lion, it's a Bengal tiger!

But seriously, I also hope no harm comes to these animals.

That news article was last updated eight hours ago, so that means the animals have been missing for twenty hours, with no food or water, locked in the back of a truck. And the article says it was a hot day. :(

I wonder if it really was a random theft or if was orchestrated by one of those rich exotic animal collectors. You'd think that the thieves would have discovered what's back there by now and abandoned the vehicle. Unless they are the kind of people who would kill them and toss them somewhere.

I hope they find them alive very quickly.

Igor and Quasimodo may have been more appropriate.

The police have found the truck but the trailer, with the animals inside, was not attached.

That must be a pretty big trailer, so hopefully they'll find it quickly, with the animals safe inside. Although given the heat, they'd probably be safer if they got out.

It's strange that the thieves split up the truck and trailer, though. I'm still wondering if they didn't deliberately target the animals.

It's a little weird that they haven't found it by now, since they found the truck. It's been a total of what, 48 hours now? I hope it doesn't take too much longer. :(

There is a theory that the thieves, once they realised they had a tiger, have decided to try and sell him on the black market. It seems that there are some bikie groups that do keep such animals.

i am not sure what they would do with the camels if this is the case.

Still no sign of the animals, unfortunately - this is very worrying.

However according to this site Jonas was on Twitter last Friday (before he was kidnapped). Here are his tweets.

-Oh boy! Going on a road trip back to Bowmanville. Hope we stop in for some smoked meat in Mtl. Tho 2 b honest I'll eat any kinda meat, LOL

-Trainer is leading camels into the trailer. Thoughtful of him to pack me some snacks for the road

-*sigh* Seems like the camels are not for me to eat. Introduce themselves as Todd and Shawn. What kinda camel names are those? #stupidcamels

-Near Montreal now for sure. Trainer better get off the highway and get me some Schwartz's. Never tastes the same in Ontario 4 some reason

-Bored. Asked Rod (or Todd or whatever) if he's on Twitter. Laughed & said Duh, Bactrians tweet, Dromedaries use Facebook. SO gonna eat him!

-No smoked meat, I guess. How about some smoked Shawn the camel? He looks juicier than Todd. #stupidcamels

-Hungry. Hey camels, better change your status to "eaten." LOL.

-Hey, do humans look different after a shower? Because the guy driving truck now looks less familiar. Camels playing w/iPhone, don't notice

-Need to find a way outta here. Brainstorm! Here goes: meat meat meat meat meat meat meat meat water meat meat meat. Sigh. Dumb tiger brain.
See even Jonas reckons the camels have dumb names.

It's been about four days now; they have to be deliberately hiding the animals somewhere. This doesn't look good. :(
