Is Iron Man 2 the first film EVER...

... To follow/sequel a film without an opening credits sequence with that same such device?

Alert the Library of Congress! :p

Lots of sequels don't, especially when the first movie didn't. But did BB have opening credits?

Probably should have said that in the first place... I had no idea what the OP was about.

Well this isn't what you were looking for necessarily but -- Lethal Weapon had opening credits, Lethal Weapon 2 did not, Lethal Weapon 3 did and Lethal Weapon 4 did not.

It could be a sign that, while the director thought of the first film as a film in the artistic sense, he and the studio might have conceded that it had a become a typical franchise movie when it came time to do the sequel

I am pretty sure Fantastic Four had no opening credits, but FF2 did.

Also, Star Trek: Nemesis was the first Trek film to have no opening credits.

I think that in IM2's case, they needed a montage of Rourke building his own reactor to parallel Tony's construction process and thus give the character credibility, but while Tony's montage comes twenty or so minutes in IM, Rourke's comes at the very beginning of IM2, so it makes sense to layer the montage with credits to keep the audience from going "who is this guy, and why am I watching a montage about him?"

And yeah, I'm not surprised that there are examples of franchises going the other way, but I can't recall any other instance 'em going in this direction. ;)

It's kind of a gimmick. As if to say this movie is so fast we don't have time for credits.
