Shows you're giving up on

So what shows won't you watch once the fall season starts?

For me:

Stargate Universe - I decided that I would give it a whole season, and thankfully it's over. I have never disliked every single character on a show before, and with the exception of one or two of the supporting cast, I hate all of these people. The stories are pretty boring, and the musical montages are awful.

The Amazing Race - I would love it if they included more information about the local cultures and scenic shots, but we keep seeing extended shots of people buying airline tickets.

The Office - With a few exceptions like the wedding episode, this once great show has been terrible this season. I suppose if friends report that it's back to form I may tune in again.

^ I gave up on SGU after five episodes. I couldn't stomach any more of it.

I would have given up on Smallville now that Allison Mack is no longer a regular cast member but she's going to be back as a recurring guest and it's the last season so it's not really worth it.

I'm actually giving up on everything I don't already watch. They simply don't make new TV shows with someone like me in mind anymore.

I generally stick with the shows I watch through thick and thin but I think I might make an exception and bail on House if it doesn't justify its existence to me in the first 4 or 5 episodes back.

Totally agree. I stuck with it this year out of habit, mostly. Other than the premiere and the lackluster finale I can't remember the basic plot of any episode from Season 6. Not a good sign.

House had ideas? I thought it was exactly like The Mentalist. Or, rather, The Mentalist was exactly like House, which is we enjoy seeing Mr. Snarky do the snark. (Apparently it's like sex, you don't get tired of the same old thing, over and over.) Except I couldn't believe in House the pain med addict, but I can (barely) suspend disbelief for Patrick Jane. And Jane is a little more pleasant.

I'm barely watching TV these days. The only series still in production that I will watch are Caprica, Dexter, Friday Night Lights and True Blood. This past season, I gave up Brothers and Sisters, Family Guy, Grey's Anatomy and Heroes (which is now cancelled).

Yeah, I'm getting really sick -- and BORED -- with the Adversary of the Season theme.

My other issue series: The Closer. I am fed up with the distractions that take up time from the show's actual premise. Mom and Dad showing up all the time... and now The Teenager. And frankly, Fritz has been getting pretty whiny and needy lately. Maybe they shouldn't have gotten married.

I liked The Closer when it was about Brenda Leigh's gift for nailing killers, not dealing with her father's neuroses about his health and a bratty niece.

I'm bailing on Stargate Universe too. I gave it a full season, but it isn't getting any better. I can tolerate bad stories, but when the entire cast has less appeal than a group of random red shirts, well, you know it's time to cut your losses. At least I still have three seasons of SG-1 and all of SG:A still to watch.

Well most of the shows I wasn't going to watch next season anyway got canned by the networks so that was easy--Heroes, Flash Forward, Melrose Place 2.0. Of the ones renewed that I thought shouldn't have been and I won't be watching is just Caprica--pretentious bore and V. I thought SGU sucked from the start so I stopped watching it long ago. I watched up through season two of True Blood but decided it wasn't my thing so not planning on watching it when it returns. I gave up on Damages after season 2 but DVRed season 3 but today when I was looking through my saved recordings decided to delete the entire season. LOST was coming off the rails so thankfully it ended before too much damage was done to its legacy.

The rest of the shows I watched that I liked and thought were good were renewed and funny enough based on the new shows I've seen previewed my schedule of what I'm going to watch is pretty much the same as this season with only The Event possibly interesting me--Chuck, Life Unexpected, Human Target, Fringe, Supernatural(toyed with dropping it after its lacklustre fifth season this year but decided it was one of those shows that I had enjoyed in the good years and guess I'd stick with it until the end kinda like The X-Files, the original Melrose Place or Roseanne), The Vampire Diaries.

There aren't really too many shows I was watching to begin with, but I gave up on Caprica because it just bored me to death. I wasn't very thrilled about the premise to it so I did go in with a negative mindset, but the show just failed to deliver any excitement or generate any interest with me.

I'm close to giving up Glee. I'll watch next season, but as the season progressed I found myself less and less interested in it. It reminds me a bit of my feelings towards Family Guy where I enjoyed it a lot at the start and then it seemed like you'd have to wait longer and longer to find jokes that were actually funny in the show itself.

I will never give up on The Amazing Race, I've been with it since the beginning in Season 1, so I've seen it at its best and at its worse. Through all of it though, it is still entertaining for me and is truly my "Travel Porn" I'll continue to watch it until it goes off the air, which I hope is not soon.

See that is why I can't stand episodic procedurals anymore. After having been exposed to serialized storytelling where there is some unpredictability, shake-up in the status quo and the writers are forced to not just recycle old episodic story ideas but instead craft a unique storyline with its own identity I just can't sit through procedurals and cop/lawyer shows like CSI/Criminal Minds/NCIS/The Closer/The Mentalist/Law & Order or series like Fringe or Supernatural where the standalones are just rehashed supernatural plots of the week you've seen so many times before but only better with a predictable action sequence and artificial jeopardy for the leads where you know they'll be alright.

At least if you do standalones do them in the vein of TNG where there was a mix and the structure wasn't formulaic.

I'm really hoping Rescue Me is better this season. The extended season last season killed it for me with Garrity's pointless musical numbers and plotlines dropped for no apparent reason. The whole season just felt like filler and I really hope it goes somewhere this season or else I'm getting ready to drop the show.

And if there's yet ANOTHER Janet/Sheila/Tommy love triangle again this season I might chuck the TV out the window.

I know I'll catch a lot of flak for this, but Dr Who, at least for the time being. I've given Matt Smith a chance and I don't really like him. To me, he doesn't really give off an aura of believability of having travelled the galaxy, of being travel weary. I just see a young kid trying to be the doctor. I don't find him convincing.

I'm the opposite when it comes to Burn Notice. I like the serialized aspect. That said, I can't see myself continuing with it this season. I just can't muster up the care for it anymore.

I watched an episode of Scrubs this season, thinking they might be back from the dead. I was wrong

Thankfully they canceled Heroes. As of late, I was only watching it to see how stupid it would become

Nothing yet.... although CSI is close. Especially now that Wendy is being written off.
