Star Wars: The Old Republic...

Well, if you read their FAQ, they only mention Revan by name (he's not going to be in the game). Exile is a glaring omission.

As for which is the better game? I just know that KoTOR2 had the better story and more interesting character development with the "influence" system. If anything, I blame the rush on LucasArts/MS more than anything else.

And thats really the tragedy behind the KotOR series. The second game had so much potential, but it felt wasted because it was rushed and unpolished

If the darn mod ever comes out, at least we'll get a nearly complete version of the game. I still disagree with the mod's stance on Atris, but I suppose I understand why they did what they did.

What's their stance on Atris?

As for KotOR 2 vs. KotOR, I kind of felt like TSL was "dark for the sake of being dark," whereas KotOR was more of a fun adventure story like classic Star Wars. I cared a lot more about Revan and his companions than I ever did for the Exile and hers.

Except BioWare's stance is irrelevant. Star Wars isn't a BW property. Lucas Arts, on the other hand, has so much as said both are canon. It's also pretty clear LA had originaly put plans into play for a trilogy. (It's a Star Wars thing.) They instead had to bail and jump on the MMORPG bandwagon.

As for the rush job, it is 100% Lucas Arts fault. They wanted it out by Christmas. Obsidian said it wouldn't be done. LA still wanted (and got) it out by Christmas...

But when once the Team Gizka and Planet M4-78 projects are done, I think the game will be much more polished. Throw in the Holowan Labs Mod, and you've got one helluva game.

Well, the rumour was that everyone working on KoTOR3 at LA was fired or transferred. I guess that was when TOR really started shaping up.

And really, given that LA was probably hands off during Galaxies, I don't think they'll do anything with TOR after the initial launch. As far as I know, KoTOR2 doesn't count when it comes to BioWare-Wars canon.

Yeah, we talked about the game a bit in the E3 thread that's sticked (I'm tired of trailers and want an in depth explanation of how this game is good and not just WoW in space). But here's the thingie on the youtubes:

Okay, now I'm just psyched about them reworking KOTOR2. Though the trailers do like shiny

If you're trying to imagine what SW:TOR will be like, imagine multi-player KOTOR/Mass Effect 2 with the economic and social enhancements and all the other MMORPG staples, and I think you wouldn't be too far off. It will probably be a good game and it should do a lot better than Sony's SW MMO did, but those expecting "Star Warcraft" will be disappointed.

Blizzard's upcoming MMO (and I notice they've been careful to avoid the "-RPG" suffix) is based on a new IP. I expect Warcraft will continue in RTS form, but as an MMO it's a one-shot deal. Historically sequels haven't worked out too well in the MMO space in any case.

World of Warcraft will continue as long as it's economically viable to do so, whether that's three more years or ten more years. Who's to say their new IP will do better? It might, it might not depending on how people react to it. There doesn't have to be a "WoW2", they can just keep adding expansions and upgrading the engine as long as there is a market for it. Of course it will end some day, but you might see a return to Azeroth down the road, maybe some kind of VR version of WoW. Maybe you'll even get to play the "same" character as you did in the original. Shit, would people ever starve to death IRL playing that .

In spirit, Cataclysm might as well be World of Warcraft 2. The original 1-50-60 game will no longer exist, the graphics are once again enhanced, and even if you only buy the original WoW box (who would do that?), you won't get the same experience as before.

These cinematic trailers are fantastic, they are doing what STO completely failed to do and that is get me, someone who has never played an MMORPG, interested in the game. Plus it has also got me interested in the tie in products, like the books and comics.

Who does the narration? He sounds so familiar.

While I loved the cinematic and applied to get into this game months ago, I wish this had been done using the game engine. I want to see how the game looks, not a fancy production.

So I assume the different classes of Jedi will be the MMO's caster class when it comes to group make-up for dungeons?

Jedi Consular - Healer?
Jedi Guardian - Tank?
Jedi Sentinel - DPS/Utility?

These are just me guessing

Actually the idea is to not have each class be a particular archtype and instead all the classes can fill any role depending on your setup. Which you're supposed to be able to change on the fly.

The Sith classes are:
  • Bounty Hunter
  • Imperial Agent
  • Sith Warrior
  • Sith Inquisitor

And the Republic classes are:
  • Trooper
  • Smuggler
  • Jedi Knight
  • Jedi Consular

There are a few videos showing the game engine floating around check on YouTube, Gamespot or another of the gaming sites. Of course the official site as well will have them, it isn't like Bioware was just put out the Deceived and Hope cinematic trailers.

Just saw, you get your own ship with your character...hopefully there will be some nice customisation for these ships.
