Latest GoldenEye 64 Rumors

^ Akiraprise, I disagree. The worst moment is when you realise that you're going to lose. ;)

I realized that I was going to lose shortly after we started playing. It's not like riding a bike I guess.

^ Interesting... dunno how I feel about the trailer, though. Something about it just seems a little bland\generic.

Ehh.... gonna have to wait and see on this one.

I hope they keep the cinematic intro style.

i wonder how much they'll change... some games do not age well. Perfect Dark was awesome when it first came out... i picked it up on the 360 and man, it's a mess (in terms of level design and flow). i havent played much with the multi-player, so maybe it is awesome.

but it has shown how far game design has come. and who knows, maybe goldeneye will have aged well.

There's a good preview up on Kotaku, which outlines some of the changes. I hate that they're using the regenning health system that is inexplicably popular in shooters right now. I also don't know how I feel about the focus shifting from post-Cold War to international banking crisis... that was one of the great things about the original. I suppose it's less relevant now, but still...

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but I won't be getting my hopes up. When the original came out, there was just something about it that made it magically, perfectly fun, and it stood out against its contemporaries. I don't know if that's possible again in the current shooter market.

Goldeneye is a fine game, but I can't get excited about this port/update/remake. Why not make another original Bond game or adapt a movie that has never had a great game associated with it?

reading that makes me think, "I hope they didnt spend a lot of money on it, because it's not going to sell." or for it to sell it's got to be AMAZING!! and the video clips look anything but. Goldeneye purists will be mad that it's not just an HD Goldeneye with online MP. maybe nostalgia will win over some people, but i'd think they've either moved on to other games or stopped gaming.

now, since i don't own a wii, maybe someone else can answer this, do all wii games look that bad? or is it some wii-ware type game, so crappy graphics are okay?

My bad, I was referring to your sig. :)
That makes more sense.

That looks pretty typical graphics wise for the Wii.

I wasn't too impressed with the trailer, especially with Daniel Craig in it, but it is Goldeneye. I'll probably pick it up.

Er, no, the whole point of Alec trevelyan's plan in both movie and game was to create a global financial meltdown- it's actually more relevant now than it was in 1995/98!

I played it so much when it came out, but trying to pick this game up recently.... almost unplayable.
The same happened to me. I tried playing against a buddy and got my ass handed to me severely. Wasn't quite how I remembered.

When I was at PAX East this year, there was a room setup with older TVs with the older consoles hooked into them and dubbed "The Classic Gaming Room." I spent most of my time in there with my buddies.

On Saturday night of that weekend, we were able to get GoldenEye playing on their huge plasma TV that was setup.

Looking at N64 graphics on a 47 inch HD plasma TV is just awesome, btw.

Anyway, I hadn't played GoldenEye since 1999 and I tell you, the moment I picked up that N64 controller and got the multiplayer rolling, it was as if no time had passed at all. I still knew my way around Complex as if it was the house I grew up in. I knew where all the hiding places were, where to get the most powerful gun (RCP-90, thank you very much), and even how to set a few traps (toss a proximity mine on a box of ammo, pick it up, then when it respawns, the mine you placed on it will be invisible and whoever picks it up the ammo, KABOOM!).

It had to have been the strangest feeling ever.

I'm excited to see this coming, but it's just not going to compare to the experience of the original. Since playing GoldenEye back in the late 90s, I haven't been able to play a FPS as well since. That N64 controller was just perfect for it and I haven't been able to adapt to anything ever since.

This is true, but in the original, it was all in the light of being in the aftermath of the Cold War. I mean, the first six or seven levels all happened in the USSR, and post-Cold War Russia was a major setting for several levels beyond that.

While I would have wanted so much more from this, I for one am thrilled that I no longer have to lug out my N64 console for this. The only thing I am worried about is that the multiplayer levels will be abbreviated.
