Will we see the "classic" Daleks again? (SPOILERS)

Candlelight

Admiral

After ep503 introduced the five Paradigm Daleks the original design introduced in the first season were literally blown off screen.

Do you think we'll see the originals again? Will we see heaps of Red Daleks in place of the old Gold Daleks, or will the five Paradigm Daleks act as leaders as control the originals as foot soldiers?

An image just released of from final episode(s) show the Dalek Supreme makes an appearance. Whether any of the others appear remains to be seen...

The sooner Moffat goes the better. Moffat wanted to put his own mark on the series, and in doing so bastardised everything we hold dear about the show... Daleks, Tardis interior.....

I'm hoping that this whole series ends up being a dream, much like in 'Amy's Choice' and next series everything will be back to how it used to be!!!

Nah only messin, shit new Daleks and I hope we get the originals back one days! :O)

I thought I saw a photo of the RTD Dalek props on display, but repainted in colors other than black or gold. I guess it was a fan prop or an older Dalek or something and I misremembered. Still, it'd be really great if the RTD Daleks were the general population, and the colors were just the leader Daleks. But if one of the reasons they redid the props were that they were too small for the operators, I don't see any way they'd be revived practically.

What? You mean like what RTD did to classic Who. :p

what Moffat has done is made the new Darleks so they are not easy to kill off like teh previous few series. i dont like the look and colour but kind of understand what they have done, but with each one having their own roles, it has a Robot Star Trek feel to it.

The videogame has armies of redshirt Daleks

There are three Daleks in the finale - white, red, and ISTR yellow

Still seems like an idiot decision. The budget for this season was tight enough, yet they burned God knows how many pounds building an assortment of new Daleks.

Actually, it was pretty much entirely a money decision. The licensing people asked for new Daleks, on account that every kid in the UK already has an action figure of the RTD version by now. Hence, a new design, and with five distinct colors! If your parents don't buy you all of them, they're only pretending to love you!

Sadly, I am not making that up.

Yup an article so accurate that it says this...

And they’ve landed a doozy with a Doctor Who piece. In their 1260th edition, they report that this series of Doctor Who, despite having a full thirteen episodes and a Christmas special, instead of the usual twelve, has had a large budget cut on previous series.

Wow, who knew we'd been imagining a 13th episode all this time...

Wasn't there also a health and safety issue with operators inside the smaller Dalek casings, or was that just a fan/net rumour?

Please don't presume to speak for all of us. I think the interior of Moffat's TARDIS is vastly superior to that of Davies' TARDIS.

That's odd. The Moffat Daleks look a lot more like those from Classic Who than did the Davies Daleks--based on pictures I've seen, anyway. I don't recall ever actually seeing any Classic Who episodes.

I believe so, but given that they were able to tough it out for four years, I'm sure they could've continued using the old props if they needed to. Likewise, I'm sure they would've taken what they learned from the RTD versions whenever it came time to make a redesign, so the eventual new-model Daleks would've always been larger and more comfortable, even if they wouldn't have necessarily come in collect-all-five colors.

They could have used old props, yes. And people would complain. The internet always finds a reason to moan so it's best just to get to work and ignore it.

Besides, the idea of making new Daleks and then making new money thorugh new toys is well worth it. If people complain about the commercialization and injustice of it all, that same commercialization is exactly whats keeping this show afloat.

Then, to be honest, you wouldn't really know would you? The Davies-era Daleks were a perfect update. The shape and outline was the same, and was just more detailed, feeling more dangerous. The Moffat ones look like a child's plastic toy viewed in a house of mirrors.

To be honest I don't really care if we do or not. I just care that whatever Dalek stories we get in future are well written and, well, exciting... :)

Very true. In their one appearance the new models distinctly lacked menace. The Olive Drab "Ironsides" were much more menacing, partially due to their generally non threatening behavior.

Right, that's why I added that bit of clarification. I've only seen pictures, and obviously they weren't of very high quality, or I probably wouldn't have said anything about the Daleks at all.

I still think I'm right about the TARDIS, though. :shifty:

I wonder what they'll do with the old props. They've got the four originals (what were the Cult of Skaro) and the new Dalek Supreme from The Stolen Earth.
