RIP: Rue McClanahan

I just saw it on the view and my cousin was asking just last night which of the Golden Girls were still alive.

Funny...they just had a repeat of when Betty White was on the Ellen show in March talking about SNL and Ellen asked her about Rue and she said "Oh, she's doing just great!" I doubt she'd have said any different if it wasn't so, but it's still kind of ironic in a way.

RIP Rue! Between her example of how to age gracefully (or at least with energy and spunk) on Golden Girls and my own grandmother I can only hope to be half of what they are/were when I'm in my 70s.

Well she could have very well been doing "just great" at that time, a stroke, like a heart attack, is a sudden killer. My grandfather was "just great" until the day he had his stroke.

That is one of the things that suck as you get older all your favorite people you loved watching as you were growing up start to pass away-this year lost so many including Gary Coleman, Frances Reid, Peter Graves etc.

The Golden Girls was a fantastic series and appointment viewing on Saturday nights on NBC and then the Golden Palace on CBS Fri nights for me as a 10 year old kid in the late 80s and early 90s. My parents looked at me like I was a little weird that a young boy could feel so invested in a quartet of older ladies but they were the funniest people on television--if contemporary sitcoms were as funny, smart and sophisticated.

I also loved Rue on Mama's Family where she also co-starred occasionally with Betty White. I remember Betty joking a few months ago that she sent a get well card to Rue and jokingly told her to hurry up and die so she could be the only living GG and sadly that is now the case.

So sad to hear.

Things are grim for 80's t.v. stars.

Someone check Philip Michael Thomas's house, and that chick who played Miss Beasley on Moonlighting, too.

RIP, Rue.

Loved her in Golden Girls, Maude, and Mama's Family. Well, every time I saw her, whether she was a series regular or a guest spot, or movies, she was always a joy.

I think you mean Miss DiPesto, who was played by Allyce Beasley.

And, thankfully, she is alive and well.

Very sad to hear about Rue. Strokes are definitely sinister, the way they seem to happen out of nowhere.

I was just thinking about her the other day. :(

Good bye Rue. And Blanche, say hello to Sophia and Dorothy for me.

She was great on Golden Girls.

Oddly, Betty White is now the only surviving Golden Girl, despite the fact that she's the oldest (a few months older than Arthur, a year or so older than Getty, more than a decade older that McClanahan).

The Golden Girls was one of the shows the whole family watched in the '80's when I was growing up. I'll always have fond memories of it.

Rest in peace, Rue McClanahan.
