TV Ratings - 5x09 (Cold Blood)

Doctor Who got an audience of 5.7 million viewers for episode nine, Cold Blood, according to unofficial overnight figures.

Also lowest share to date for the Moffat era...

The figure was a million higher than last week although the share was down at 27.2% of the total audience.

I would guess with a lower share the final ratings won't go too high up so 6.5 million ish. Many people missed last part 1 so not surprised with the lower share with increased ratings.

Doctor Who was the third highest rated programme of the evening coming behind Britain's Got Talent and just being beaten by The Eurovision Song Contest 2010.

My Index to date (Final numbers only)...

I expect the finals later this week to show Part 1 of the story to be around 6.5 million so both episodes will probably end with the same audience.

A bit of a dissapointment there. But still 3rd place for the night. So it wasn't a complete disaster.

I had hoped it would do better, it being on at 7pm, and the weather not being as good.

Still I think I can understand it, I have no great love for Matt & Karen, like I did Tennant & Piper or Tennant & Tate.

Exactly. But of course people with conveniently use this as yet another excuse to declare Moffat and Matt Smith a failure (seriously, why do they bother watching then?). 3rd place up against Britain's Got Talent which is the UK's American Idol, and the Eurovision thing which is like the Second Coming in Europe (no one gives a s*it about it in North America). I don't see the problem.

And once again, a 27 share is something mainstream American network shows would kill to get. And American Idol, speaking of, rarely sees those kinds of numbers anymore.

Odds are the AI number will be in the Excellent range again, just as it has been for every single episode but one, so that means anyone saying the "new team" isn't going over well needs a reality check.

If we get to the point where DW is being beaten by the stale old movies the other networks put up against it, then lets start to give a damn about the ratings.

Am not surprised about the ratings the finals could push it higher than I expcted they been rather high add ons so far this season

Heres the run in from previous years from 8-13 so when the summer normally kicks in (remember they are finals we still to get ours)...

The Impossible Planet - 6.32 million
The Satan Pit - 6.08 million
Love & Monsters - 6.63 million
Fear Her - 7.14 million
Army of Ghosts - 8.19 million

I think our final episodes from here will get from 6.5 to possibly 8 million for the finale am not surprised to see soem Audience erosion after 5 years with a new Doctor and writing staff, nothing to worry about...The World Cup won't help and makes me think BBC should of started in March to end in Early June.

Moffat really is killing Doctor Who, I wish people would stop blindly defending him and instead make their voices heard, lets save our show before it's totally ran in to the gutter by this new production team :(

I'm predicting two more series of Doctor Who before it is cancelled at this rate!

Are you being serious really ? :wtf:

The ratings are fine, do you even realise that when 5x08 aired only 13 million people had there TV's on due to weather and Doc Who had a 32.2% share. More people were watching TV for this episode so the share was down but around the same audience by the time finals happen.

Lets comapre episode 8/9 from previous year

Fathers Day - 8.06 million
The Empty Child - 7.11 million

The Impossible Planet - 6.32 million
The Satan Pit - 6.08 million

Human Nature - 7.74 million
The Family of Blood - 7.21 million

Silence In The Library - 6.27 million
Forest Of The Dead - 7.84 million

Last 2 weeks...

6.49 million viewers and N/A but looking at probably 6.5-6.7 million

wheres the issue ?

The AI are among the highest for UK TV so the fanbase is not going to run away all of a sudden. 5 years old, shows will see drops but the audience is virtually all there so Doc Who will be around for anotehr 5 years at this rate.

The share is the key and normally around 1 in 3 tv's will watch Doc Who with special episodes like finales and openers can get high as 40% share.

If you don't like what your seeing then fine thats your issue but to say Moffat is going to drive away the fanbase and kill the show is :wtf::wtf::wtf:.

and a little

Don't be absurd, it's holding it's share of the audience, it's getting great AI figures and it's a worldwide hit. Just because you're starting to dislike it doesn't mean it's dying a death.

Isn't the World Cup going on? I'm an American so I really have no clue. Wouldn't you crazy Brits be watching your football?

Speaking of worldwide BBC announced recently it made more money off Who than ever before.

Am I the only one who took Timofnine's post as a joke? Am I wrong to assume it's a sarcastic post?

Not unless it's a sustained campaign of sarcasm. Tim's been complaining about this series all week now.

Oh. Really? I thought it was a joke, as well. That's sad, if it's real...

Finals are in and a much bigger jump than I predicted...Ratings crisis, what crisis

Final figures for Episode Nine show that "Cold Blood" was watched by 7.49 million viewers.

A jump of just under 1.8 million viewers.

On BBC One the programme got 7.04 million watching where it was the fourth most watched programme for the channel for the week, beating Tuesday's EastEnders.

An additional 0.45 million watched on BBC HD and when added together the programme totalled 7.49 million viewers and was the 9th most watched programme of the week.

Also I've updated the share on a few episodes since before I never was given the share of the final numbers so increases for the past several episodes...

FINAL NUMBERS ONLY INDEX

The Hungry Earth
6.49 million viewers and 32.5% share
86 Index Score

Cold Blood
7.49 million viewers and 27.6% share
85 Index score

A lower share yet almost 7.5 million viewers just means in the end more people overall were watching TV than normal but then again the 7pm slot will do that.

Based off this jump I am going to say Vincent which got a bigger share just from overnight ratings will probably get somewhere around 7 million.
