MLB Talk - 2010 Season

The Blue Jays have officially had one of their best opening two months of the season, at 31-22. The last time they had that record through 53 games? 1993. The last time they had a better record through May 31st? 31-19, in 1992.

Now, whether or not they can keep it up is a different story, and the fact that of the ten best records in baseball, four of them are in the AL East won't make things easy, but it is an encouraging sign right now.

As it stands, we lead the majors in home runs, and despite losing Halladay, we've wound up with some of the best starting pitching in the AL. Our fourth and fifth spots in the rotation could be better, but hopefully with Jesse Litsch back in a week or so, that should be shored up. If we can keep our heads above water over the next eight games (two more against Tampa, three against the Yankees, and three more against Tampa) and win four or five, then the Jays might actually have a legitimate shot at going somewhere this year. We shall see...

Dontrelle Willis and cash to the Arizona Diamondbacks for RHP Billy Buckner.

Willis was the 2003 NL Rookie of the Year, and a former 22 Game Winner and 2nd place on the Cy Young ballot.

He has not done so well in recent years, but he's certainly done better than Billy Buckner!

Well, it's a little early in the season to call it an implosion. But it certainly is a nasty slump that they're in at the moment. Usually they have their losing in April, so it's a bit hard to figure out what's going to happen here (especially because I can't see a tangible cause).

It's really hard to even consider Jays as contenders for a pennant or wild card. They've made it clear that they are rebuilding, so they're not going to blow that for an upgrade if they are still in contention in late July or whenever the trade deadline is. But we shall see...

^ Oh yeah, I wouldn't put money on the Jays by any stretch. But I definitely feel better about their future now than I did at most points throughout the Riccardi era.

Well... anything less than 100 wins and ESPN cries.

You keep crying about ESPN loving the Phillies. They aren't the Sox or the Yankees. Nobody noticed them until they won the World Series. Right now they are slumping, which is news as well. It isn't some giant conspiracy to piss on the Braves. They had their run. I can't tell you how much coverage they got on ESPN back then, but I guarantee it was more than the coverage the Phillies got at the time.

Anyway, you got your wish. The Phillies' slump continues and now the Braves are up a game and a half. If it weren't for the rain delay, who knows what would have happened. Either way, the Phillies have issues they need to address.

About 3 weeks ago I was declaring the Braves the worst Braves team since sometime in the 70's or 80's, and now they're blowing my mind. What an odd team this year. Let's hope they can maintain.

I respect Joyce a lot too. Jim Joyce, the new Ed Hoculi. Can't believe on that close of a play in that instance you would call the guy safe. Even if he was safe, it's the 27th out. You have to give the benefit of the doubt on that kind of play.
