The great Roger Ebert KILLS Sex and the City 2

Just like if Whedon made another Firefly movie, fans of the series would go watch it regardless of what any critics say about it.
Damn right I would see it.

But back to SATC2. To me, I have zero interest in it. It starts here next week, so not mant reviews here yet. I'd rather see the Australian film Animal Kingdom that starts the day after.

What bothers me about the whole Sex and the City phenomena is that it just falls back on every stereotype that women have been trying to avoid for generations. I had hoped that, by the time I reached (OK---passed) middle age, that women wouldn't want to see themselves portrayed as mindless, shallow bimbos, who care only about money, clothes and appearances. Being fashionable and getting the jewelery, shoes, clothes and booze that they want seems to be all that's necessary for these characters lives.

That's why I never cared about the show, and I'm a little sad that the movies make so much money.

I don't know women like this, and I really wouldn't want to, but I know they're out there. I had kinda hoped that women would be a bit offended in seeing THIS drek being offered to them as role-models, but sadly, they flock to it, ....and little girls will grow up with this crap, and Paris Hilton, and whatever bimbo comes next.

But...*SIGH*...that is what the free market is about: large groups of stupid people getting what they want.

I agree completely and this is why I wanted the movie to fail.

For example, I pity those Star Wars fans who had to endure the prequels. However, as the "your favourite movie" thread indicates, apparently there are fans who are so devoted to their brand that they can truly love tripe like "Revenge of the Sith" (seriously one of the worst movies I've ever seen), so maybe I shouldn't feel so sorry for them.

Ah, another prequal hater who just can't help themselves from bashing the films that ended five years ago in a thread that has nothing to do with them. Well done.

Was just reading a story on the SMH site, as the film had it's Australian Premiere last Friday night, and I found this comment - As the credits rolled on the premiere last Friday night, one well-known television presenter was overheard to say: "OK, worst movie ever."

Can't help but laugh.

Also, that rant ZR put the link up to was awesome. So true.

Mark Kermode compares Sex and the City 2 with 2001: A Space Odyssey, among other things, in this week's rant :guffaw:

That was pure epicness in YouTube form  I've never heard of this dude before but I'll be keeping an eye out for more rants

You really should get the podcast (on the BBC Five Live website) and subscribe to their YouTube channel, even if you disagree with their views or aren't a fan of films in general. :)

Oh, I'm not a prequel hater. Actually, I really don't give a shit about Star Wars. I haven't enjoyed any of the movies very much. I'm not one of those fans of the original series who whines about prequels because they 'ruined' my childhood. I just happened to have a friend who told me to watch "Revenge of the Sith" in 2008 because it's "brilliant", so I borrowed it from him, and it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I'm just so shocked that George Lucas, a man who has been in the movie business for over thirty years, hasn't learned enough in that time to be able write and cast a movie in which the writing and acting is better than that of as second rate junior high school play. Throw in the awful, headache-inducing computer game quality CGI and you've got a total debacle.

I guess I was more appalled than most people because I'm super picky about movies, so I'm accustomed to watching high quality stuff. It amazed me that a movie so poor in every aspect could be made these days at the mainstream blockbuster level.

Well, it's wishfulfillment. Guys want to be space marines, women want to be rich and have sex with hunky men. Let's just be honest with what we want and go watch Iron Man and Sex and the City in peace.

If this movie had starred Jennifer Lopez, Neve Campbell and Angelina Jolie in tight clothes, Ebert would give it *** 1/2. :)

I've got to say, though. As much as that show and these movies make me want to kill myself.

I'd so do Kristin Davis.

Why do you say that? He has given poor to mediocre reviews for some of the movies that those three have been in. He has also given good reviews for movies they've been in. I don't see a pattern.
