Break Up Songs

Sooner or Later by N.E.R.D... the 3-minute long guitar solo says everything...

This one. For sure.

Sharon O'Neill - Maybe

Harry Nilsson's 'Can't Live' (or some similar name) is a real heartbreaker, if you know the story behind it.

Barenaked Ladies' "Thanks That Was Fun" has always been a favourite of mine:

EDIT: Another I thought of shortly after posting is "Boots or Hearts" by The Tragically Hip:

"Fingers and toes, fingers and toes / Forty things we share / Forty-one if you include the fact that we don't care"

Uh, "Breaking Up is Hard to Do"?

"Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover"

"She's Gone"

Gee, there's a great scene in "Better Off Dead" (an underrated movie) that has a number of them.

I LOVE that movie! "It's a shame when folks be throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that!"

The one that always springs to my mind is this one. It's one of those things that struck a particular chord with me:

"Take A Bow" - Madonna

The song for me is forever ruined by the opening misheard lyric, "No I can't forget the semen on your face as you were leaving..."

The car race into the duck pond was filmed where I used to live. The church that owned the land where they dug the pond got some money off it and built a building there!

That part was filmed in Sierra Madre, CA. Nice area. Except for minor things like earthquakes and fires. That foothill you see in the scene, at the top of the street? I've seen it on fire twice.

Well l was on this site and it did say it was a break up song.
Well when the ship sunk and they were trying to survive on the plank of wood she woke up to find out that he was dead.

She was crying at this stage on whether to let him go or keep him with her..

She choose to let him go in that icey water.

So, no thoughts on Sharon O'Neill? Reason I ask is she's probably not well known Stateside, and is a great pop song writer.

When I was young, the (at the time) love of my life broke up with me. We did end up dating sort of sporadically after that (don't ask, I have/had no idea what that was all about :D), so I could never listen to 10CC's "I'm Not In Love" without thinking of him and the breakup.

"So just because, I call you up, don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made." and "Ooh, you'll wait a long time for me."

I'm almost 52 and I can still feel the echoes of the pain from those long-ago days, although my love for the guy is gone along with my youth.

Yeah, that's the funny thing. The face becomes a vague image, you might forget the name, or why you liked them, but the pain remains, and resurfaces when a song comes on the radio, or you smell a certain perfume.

Now, that's one mondegreen I've never heard before! :guffaw:

BTW, the song is called “Without You” and it was written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger.
