NBA Playoffs

Being the Lakers fan that you are, Digits .... do you think they took the Suns too lightly or is Phoenix really just about as good of a team?

During the regular season, Phoenix only finished three games behind the Lakers. They are a very good team.

They still need to take one in Los Angeles. So we'll see how good they are.

Looks like the Celtics' inability to close out at home and lack of a deep bench might come back to haunt them. Especially since the Ticket Stub got his bell rung.

Would be interesting to have a Suns-Magic match.

I was happy with how hard Orlando played last night. They showed a lot more intensity than the first 3 games. I still wish they'd do a better job with turnovers.

Depending on the Perkins situation (I think the 2nd tech was warranted), and how scrambled Davis' eggs are, Boston could be without 2 bigs to throw at Howard. The door might be open just a crack for Orlando. We'll see. My gut says Boston will win Game 6.

"Flying elbows" Howard would never face that situation. Just like "leg kick" Kobe wouldn't.

Perkins is not a superstar, so he does not get the benefit of any doubt, even where there is none.

There was no technical in either case. If there were, then no one would be playing the game after one half.

Not to say that Boston didn't get its butt kicked.

^I thought the second time he was showing up the ref and acting like Glen Davis' nickname.

Plus, he already had 6 so far these playoffs. Reputation gives you the benefit of the doubt one way or the other sometimes. Look at Rasheed Wallace in his earlier days.

True, but Rasheed did deserve them for his antics. If technical fouls were handed out for being a marginal crybaby, then Kobe and Howard and 90% of NBA players wouldn't be playing much.

No--walking away from the ref while complaining is not "showing up" a ref--it is what players do to avoid the technical.

It was a bad call given the circumstances.

But again, that comes with the territory, and wasn't the reason why Boston lost.

My gut feel at the time:

The double tech against him and Gortat is a warning that you are on a short leash. The demonstrative arm waving and such later after being warned is showing up the ref on the call.

Walking away is irrelevant. If I'm arguing with my wife, then make a big fuss and cuss her out as I walk way, it's still just as bad.

Again, just my interpretation of things.

Well, one was overturned. The "elbow" to the stomach one, evidently.

I still maintain that had a superstar done what Kendrick did, then simply walking away fuming and fussing would not have garnered a technical.

The NBA is a league of whiners, and Kobe is up there with the best of them. Any drive to the hoop is inevitably accompanied by a "Hey!". Any foul on Howard is immediately followed by a whiny argument.

The Kendrick situation was no different, and officials should strive for uniformity of calls.

Anyway. Now we'll see if the "delirious" Big Baby can count how many fingers are being held up in front of his face...

My hope is that it's either a 6 for how many fouls he has, or 7 for the number of games I hope this goes.

WOW!

What a finish.

That sequence of 3-pointers by Phoenix was unbearable. It seemed to last forever!

It's not pretty, but I'll take it.

:techman:

What's bothersome is how they celebrated like they had just won the series though. This was the closest game Phoenix made it in L.A..

Looked kind of "loosey goosey" to me.

Be interesting to see if L.A. can close it out in Phoenix...

By the time I got home from class (10:45 east coast time) and got around to watching it, it was Lakers by 10+ in the 4th. Phoenix came back in a hurry.

I'm fired up for Game 6 in the East tonight. I live near Boston, but I like the Magic. It'll be interesting to see which teams show up tonight. The second wind or worn out Celtics vs. the intense or who cares Magic.

Alvin Gentry might want to give his team a refresher course on the art of boxing out. Ron Artest had no resistance at all, he was back at the three point line (!) and just waltzed in for the rebound.

"They held home court. We'll go back and do the same..."
-Steve Nash, after Game 5
