Old Treks, New Format

I was on S&S the other day doing my regular check on the Trek stuff, and apparently they are going to be rereleasing 9 old MMPBs as TPBs. I admit to being a little skeptical since we haven't heard anything about this yet and since alot of them are only part of miniseries, but I figured I'd post it and see what you guys think. Have any of the authors of these books have heard anything about this?
Here's the list of books exactly as written and in the order they are written on the site:
Errand of Fury Book Two: Demands of Honor
The Eugenics Wars Vol. 1: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh
Miracle Workers: SCE Book 2
Star Trek Vanguard #3: Reap the Whilrwind
Worlds of Deep Space Nine Volume Three: The Dominion and Ferenginar
Breakdowns
Rosetta
Burning Dreams
Errand of Fury Book One: Seeds of Rage
 
I've heard nothing about this; I suspect it might be an error. I hope it's not, though -- because I'd really like to see Reap the Whirlwind back in print, even in trade paperback.
 
Yeah, the one reason I was wondering if it is true is because these do seem to be books that people have complained about not being able to find in print.
 
That has to be an error, that doesn't make any sense at all. Except, of course, for Reap The Whirlwind, which should be reprinted asap :)
 
First I've heard of any of those being reprinted at all, much less in a more expensive format. Odd choices (Miracle Workers, but not Have Tech, Will Travel? Errand of Fury 1 and 2, but not 3?, etc.), and the prices are way above what a trade paperback normally would go for. Also....I spot-checked a few and they all have July as the release month. That makes no sense, either.

Without anything else to go on, I'm thinking this has to be an error.

From an economical point of view it makes a lot of sense. As stated several times, the profit margin for a trade is higher than for a MMPB, especially since these would only be reprints (Fewer work, lower costs). And since this summer is not exactly crowded with new releases, Pocket needs something they can sell, otherwise we could see the next turn of "Adjustments" in the amount of employees. Actually, I wouldn't be too surprised, If were going to see more reprints of older titles in the future.
I personally don't care about these re-realeses, since I already own these books, but if you check for the prices for some of these titles at Amazon, you should be glad for those who don't own these books already (eg, Reap the Whirlwind costs more than 60$...)
 
The prices, as Dayton notes, are odd.

Assuming the listings are not a mistake, though, could Pocket possibly be considering POD? Because the prices are in line for that.

Pocket has been using POD for a few years to keep some titles in print. I have trade paperback copies of Make it So and To The Stars that are both quite definitely POD.

Interestingly, I got both of them as "remainders," which seems like really bad planning. How would you ever have to remainder a POD book...?
 
This is news to me, but I'd certainly be happy to see some sort of omnibus edition of the EUGENICS WARS in print . . . .

Some POD books can be ordered by brick-and-mortar stores as a special order by a customer. The customer is under no obligation to buy it, however, and thus it's possible for a POD book to end up floating about, unwanted and unloved. I've encountered remained POD books at both Borders and Barnes & Noble.
 
I don't know if any of the involved writer folk will get author/contributor copies of these (since they represent a different edition), but if any show up at Stately Ward Manor, I'll let ya know. :)
 
I'm very curious about these because it just seems like a really random collection of books. I could see if they were all Titan, or Vanguard or New Frontier, but there doesn't really seem to be any reason behind these choices.
