U2 has cancelled the upcoming North American leg of its 360 Degrees world tour — and its headline slot at the Glastonbury Festival next month.

Bono, the band's frontman, left hospital in Munich on Tuesday after undergoing emergency spinal surgery, U2 reported on its website, but the 50-year-old singer has been told by doctors to undertake a rehab regime and rest for at least eight weeks.

"Our biggest and I believe best tour has been interrupted and we're all devastated. For a performer who lives to be on stage, this is more than a blow. He feels robbed of the chance to do what he does best and feels like he has badly let down the band and their audience," U2's manager Paul McGuinness said on the website.

The Irish rockers planned to kick off their North American tour in Salt Lake City on June 3.

Sixteen concerts were slated, including shows at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton on June 23, at Toronto's Rogers Centre on July 3 and at the Hippodrome in Montreal on July 16 and 17.

Shitty deal, I had tickets to Seattle on June 20th. I really enjoyed the first leg of the 360 tour, the set was amazing and they still put on one of the better live shows out there IMO.

Looks like 2011 is the earliest we can expect them to be back. :(

I suspected that would happen. Back injuries ain't no joke and not everyone can bounce back from them quickly, IMO.

True that, and Bono sure isn't a spry youngster any more.

I was actually thinking about how old U2 had gotten when I watched The Edge in It Might Get Loud, which he starred in with Jimmy PAge and Jack White. Great effing movie btw, I highly recomend it.

You're probably better off going to see Pearl Jam.

;)

True that.

I swear Garak, you get Blacker everyday yo!
Really? To me that's a Canadian saying. We live on the same land mass yet there's so much we don't know about one another.

I saw Pearl Jam once, I almost rushed the stage to demand my money back, but got drunk instead.

Really, I'm surprised.
I've enjoyed their shows.
..but to be honest, I've NEVER liked U2.

Ah well, too each their own I guess.

Garak, you'll always be my brotha' from another mother. :bolian:

My friends who I was there with really enjoyed the show and thought I was nuts, so maybe I'm just way too critical, I don't know. Since then haven't been able to stomach them. I'll take you to a U2 concert if we ever get the chance, you'll love it after the 5th or 6th doobie, I promise. ;)

You gotta deal. :guffaw:

Even though the members of U2 are between 48 and 50, they're all still in very good shape, IMO. Not over-indulging in the "rock star life" probably has its rewards.

Personally, it's kind of ironic that Bono would hurt his back now given that he routinely did dangerous stuff on stage during U2's early years--like climbing tall scaffolding without a harness, swinging off stuff, and jumping off the stage without looking--that used to scare the crap out of the manager and the rest of the band at times. I wouldn't be surprised if he had been doing something like that during the tour warm-up sessions when he hurt himself...

That's exactly what I thought he did; the band's manager's not saying how Bono hurt his back though. Hopefully they'll be back, cause I've got to see a U2 concert before I die...:)

Well, I guess the cumulative damage from all those stunts finally caught up with him.

OUCH.

I wish him a full and speedy recovery. Back injuries are nothing to mess around with.

Go and see a new band that has something to say unlike these tired old hasbeens
No new band will ever have anything to say that matches the lyrics of those such as Bob Dylan or Crosby, Stills & Nash.

That's why they stand the test of time.

Usually, I'd agree with you,and I've said the same thing before too (check out my earlier posts on old vs. new music, and the need to be current instead of living in the past), but I think that U2 at least warrant still seeing in concert-they're still good, unlike a certain 'greatest rock band' that are still touring and making records that are crap.

We had tickets to a postponed show as well (June 16). We're bummed about it all. We had a big night planned with friends for this one.

But it is what it is. We'll catch them next year.

I'm ambivalent about most of their post-Achtung Baby output, but no one puts on a show like U2. I would never miss them when they come around. You definitely get your money's worth.

Hey, I'm in.

Pearl Jam still fucking rocks, though. :klingon:
