Not at all. I was just trying to add a bit of historical perspective to the discussion. Those seemed like good examples of famous directors who employed the same actors repeatedly . . . .
 
I daresay it's hard, if not impossible, to find directors, producers, etc. who don't reuse actors. After all, it can be hard to find good, reliable people, and if you've found some actors that are consistently reliable and that you have a good relationship with, it makes sense to use them again. Heck, it goes back to the tradition of theater where the same repertory company would play the parts in all the different productions. So if filmmakers/TV producers who reuse actors constitute a "club," then it's a club whose membership is pretty much all-inclusive.

No, you're correct, it is a hatred. I've hated everything Whedon has ever touched, even when I didn't know it was his work at the time.

And I can't stand Fillion either (not even the Whedon connection, though I'm sure that doesn't help). Sometimes, for no logical reason, an actor just rubs a person the wrong way. It happens often enough.

I wouldn't call it childish, though. I now avoid movies done by Wes Anderson because I know I'll hate them (I've seen "Tenenbaums" and "Rushmore"), despite the critical acclaims he gets. They're well done and he's a talented guy, but why would I waste my time and money on something I know I absolutely will not enjoy?

I don't listen to music I don't enjoy. I don't watch TV shows I don't enjoy. I don't read comic books I don't enjoy (at least, on a regular basis, there's always the occasional stinker). And I don't go to movies I don't enjoy.

Or, as a nerd, am I supposed to do this? Like the people who continue to watch shows they hate, only to complain about it online?
 
I bet Tahmoh Penikett could make a good Bruce Banner. Or heck, Enver Gjokaj. He's such a good character actor he wouldn't even need special effects to play the Hulk convincingly. :D
 
I heard Johnny Depp is going to be in the next Tim Burton film. Not sure if I should believe it.

Nah, she's not right for it.

As much as I don't want her (the character that is) in the film, she might make a good Wanda, though if they stick someone as generally useless as Wanda with her wooly, poorly defined powers in the movie they'll just get the usual lot moaning that the main 'girl' wasn't as cool as the guys. Ms. Marvel doesn't have that problem.
 
Seeing as how the Avengers pretty much sucked when they wore brown coats (the 1990s, just prior to the Heroes Reborn travesty), I am asking you nicely to keep them off them now.
 
yeah, what was up with the thing for 90s heroes to wear skin-tight spandex and then stick a bulky jacket over the top?
 
It was a whole thing. You had to be there.

X-Men/X-Factor/X-Force wore 'em too... just with little 'X's on the shoulders instead of the 'A's. I think it was sort of a way of giving the Avengers a unifying 'look' so when you had massive crossovers you knew that "Oh the chick in the brown leather jacket is an Avenger and the one in just spandex isn't. Gotcha."

It was lame. Although oh so sexy on Serse and Black Widow ;)
 
and Rogue...

it wasn't something X-Force tended to do. i dunno about X-Factor, but i know Rogue was the main offender in X-Men.

Although the coat-and-jacket era was visually silly, I must say it is a favorite period of mine because of the heavy dose of Vision and Black Knight, a couple characters I always liked.
 
I certainly don't worship Joss Whedon, I love his work, but I don't worship him, but I don't get it...whats the big deal that he might hire actors he's worked with before? That happens all the frickin' time, he isn't the first nor will he be the last to do it. I agree about Tahmoh Penikett and Enver Gjokaj, and not because they worked with Whedon, but because these guys are damn good at what they do, Enver probably fits the bill better though, Tahmoh seems more Captain Americary or something else along those lines, a fighting type of guy or whatever (I don't know Marvel heroes that well). As far as I know, Banner isn't really along those lines, but I don't know all of the 'versions' of Banner, I seem to recall that as a Human, he tends to be a wimp.
 
^Tahmoh Penikett would make a good Cap, actually, and Enver as Banner would be a great choice.

Lots of directors have their "go to" guys. It's just like when a football team gets a new manager, they bring a load of coaches from their old teams with them.

Even if Joss wasn't directing this movie, I'd still think Fillion is a good choice.
 
Personally I think Alan Tudyk would make a much better Hank Pym.

Much as I like Fillion, his schtick's becoming a little tired. :(

It's funny that a few weeks ago, a friend of mine and I were joking about how, since Whedon was directing the Avengers movie, there'd be a bunch of Whedon alums in the movie. He actually did suggest Tudyk for Pym, and I rather liked the idea. But I'm still excited about Filion (even though I think Tudyk would've been just a touch more fitting) because so far I haven't seen anything with him that hasn't been a lot of fun (although I haven't seen his horror movies).
