Forbidden Planet is definately worth a blind buy.

I haven't seen Logan's Run in thirty years, so I don't remember it.

Coming to all this a little late...

Forbidden Planet is an all-time classic-- the second best movie ever made, in my opinion.

What's #1?
Casablanca.

I remember being distracted the first time I saw Casablanca by all the familiar lines. And then I watched it often enough that all the lines became familiar, so no distraction. I'm also a massive fan of To Have and Have Not, which borrows some elements of Casablanca but is very much its own movie (for one thing, the Bogart/Bacall chemistry is very different from the Bogart/Bergman chemistry). I liked Algiers, too, which was a bit of an influence on Casablanca, but when I saw the French original Pepe le Moko, with Jean Gabin instead of Charles Boyer, I was blown away.

As for Forbidden Planet -- absolutely essential for any fan of Star Trek, Babylon 5, or SF movies in general. Logan's Run, well, I love it, but I was only 13 when I first saw it. It's dated in a lot of ways but it's fairly typical of pre-Star Wars 1970s movie SF. Worth seeing.
