What if Eric had been interested in Jason instead of Sookie?

The collective "squee!!" of fan girls everywhere, at the mention of this prospect would be deafening.
What then? I don't think that would change anything fundamentally in the story at all.
What if Eric wasn't interested in any special abilities on his part? What if he was tasked with the job of finding the person who's killing women who assiocate themselves with vampires by the Queen of Lousiana to clear the vampires' name in these killings and during his investigation, he comes across Jason who was a potential suspect in these crimes? During his interrogation of him in Fangtasia's basement, an attraction develops between them.
Maybe at some point before or after the conclusion of Season 1, Eric trains Jason to be a survivor like him both mentally and physically while Jason tries to conceal his relationship with Eric fearful of how his friends in Bon Temps would respond if they found out that he is a fangbanger. Maybe, instead of Jason going to the Fellowship of the Sun as a willing believer, Eric plants him there as a spy suspecting them of some troubling vampire-related crimes that have come to his attention. Eric also does it to put Jason to the test, to confront his fear of being outed as a vampire lover.

Yeah, except for that I still don't know how it would change anything. Jason isn't that integral to the story at all imo.
Well it would make a big difference if they were plannig to use a development from book three or four when Eric gets amnesia...
Do you think Jason and Eric would have a relationship similiar to that of Queer as Folk's Brian and Justin in which they have sex with other people but only have love for each other? Or do you think Eric would too possessive of Jason to let him continue his horndog ways?
Since I see Jason as little more than comic relief, I would find the series a lot less compelling.
Okay, now that that's out of my system... I haven't seen S2 yet (don't get HBO, have to wait for the DVDs), so I'm not sure what they've done differently from the book. Jason's character becomes a lot more interesting 3-4 books from now. And frankly, the Sookie-Bill-Eric triangle is too good to want to give up.
Season 2 is very Jason heavy. There's some great stuff.
Do you think a Eric-Jason relationship would have more drama and sexual energy than a Eric-Sookie relationship? What kind of drama do you see for the couple?
