Luke Cage to possibly be Marvel Studios first sub-$50m movie

I really think this could work well. I liked the short-lived Cage series that Marvel had during the '90s, but I truly became a fan of the character once he became an Avenger and a married family man.

Marvel might want to go for casting a very well-known actor as Cage's villain, but casting an unknown (or just relatively unknown) actor as Cage himself...

John Singleton's been trying to get this movie off the ground for the better part of a decade. I wonder if he's gonna be attached

If I had the choice, I would introduce Cage in The Avengers first as an Avenger. That way the audience gets to know him.

Though she's a fairly recent addition, I hope we get Jessica Jones in the movie as well.

Tyrese Gibson as Cage and Ray Park as Iron Fist.

'Nuff said.

Amen.

Both have been in the frame for those roles for a while. A pre-Oscar Jamie Foxx was also linked to Luke Cage but the lower budget for this outing pretty much rules him out.

Trivia time - Luke Cage inspired a young Nicholas Coppola when he was looking for a change of name, to escape from his uncle Francis' shadow.

geek-out trivia time:

a draft script a while back had the newly-escaped-from-jail Luke rescuing two innocents from criminals and when asked what his name was, said Luke... - looked around saw a Nic Cage film poster - ...Cage.

Is Taye Diggs too old?

What about casting legitimate actors (Anthony Mackie, Derek Luke) and turning them into action heroes?

That's who popped in my mind. 50 Cent is pretty big but I have no idea if he can act.

If you've seen any movies with 50 Cent, he can't act. In fact, there was a lot of backlash when Stallone said 50 Cent was going to be in The Expendables, so he had to replace him with Terry Crews.

Paradox!!!!!!!!!!! :p

^ I'm no lover of rap, but LL Cool J, Eminem, Ashley Walters and others have proven to be good actors.

And at least if they're acting they can't inflict any more rap on us ...

IIRC, Nicolas Cage got his last name from Luke...(to distance himself, professionally, from the Coppola name)...

A movie from a character that is not real known outside the hardcore comic crowd might not be such a good idea.

They should use a white guy after all they turned Nick Fury into a black guy so it's only fair right?

Then that would mean:

*Iron Man
*Kick-Ass
*The Crow

...were bad ideas since they weren't known outside the 'hardcore' comic book world.

Why can't he be Hispanic or Asian?

With it being a Marvel Studios property, hopefully that would mean Iron-Man/Hulk etc references, enforcing the idea that there are other heroes out there.

Iron Man was well known

To people who read comics (or familiar with comics), yes he is well known....

*Kick-Ass
As much as I loved it, this one did not perform that great in theaters

It didn't do as well as the small hype thought it would, for certain silly controversial reasons...but, it may recoup its costs on DVD.
